EC Cape Town is looking for a Director of Studies to lead and manage all aspects of the academic division.

As the Director of Studies, you will be responsible for creating a superior student centric learning experience through the delivery of an Academic product that exceeds the students' expectations while ensuring that teacher development drives great academic learning.

When you join our team as the Director of Studies, you will:

  • Assist the Centre Director with the overall management and leadership of the centre and to meet the centres key performance indicators
  • Build a highly engaged, high performing and customer focused teaching team with an appropriate range of expertise, through efficient recruitment procedures, robust induction and inspiring leadership
  • Ensure that all the academic requirements as stipulated by the regulatory bodies as best practice are implemented and maintained in the school
  • Organise student assessment, needs analysis and student academic induction on first day
  • Develop the academic and teaching team through developmental observation, personalised development plans, team and individual training to achieve high performance and meet the teaching standards of the organisation
  • Ensure that the academic progress and needs of the students are being met, by actively seeking feedback, investigating and solving any problems, counselling students on learning needs and maintaining a balance between company policy and student benefit in decisionā€making
  • Work with the Centre Director and Regional Academic Director to achieve the following academic KPI's: Classroom averages, Teacher Engagement, Student satisfaction (NPS), Student progress, Teaching delivery costs

To be a good Director of Studies, you will be:

  • Educated to degree level plus a MA.TESOL, Certificate in EFL or equivalent. You will also have experience of English Language teaching at all levels and administration.
  • You will have strong leadership skills and experience managing a team of teachers. You will have the ability to prioritise and delegate effectively, while balancing many different needs including those of the school, students, and teachers.
  • You will be analytical and organised while being approachable and flexible. You will be able to think on your feet and deal with problems as they arise.
  • Planning and preparation is fundamental to this role. You will be able to anticipate busy times of the year and ensure you have recruited the right people at the right time.
  • The most important thing is that you will be dealing with people so you are a team player and know how to get the best out of people.
  • Your team expects you to be visible and engaging, so you are able to build rapport by implementing strong communication skills.
  • The position requires dedication and flexibility. You will be able to wear many hats and be comfortable working with budgets one minute, covering for a sick teacher the next, while the next leading a CPD session with the team.
