Duties and responsibilities:


  • Place Purchase Orders for components in line with requirements of internal customers and project plans.
  • Negotiate all terms and conditions in line with business operating procedures ensuring the best total acquisition costs.
  • Continually monitor suppliers to ensure cost, quality, and delivery adherence.
  • Provide information and support as required to the Purchasing Manager, Departmental Managers and other internal customers.
  • This will include, but not limited to delivery dates and pricing of products required.
  • Effective buying of steel according to tender specification supplied by Technical Department and project plan.
  • Effective cost controlling in getting quotes and compare to invoices generated.
  • Timeous followup on outstanding orders to ensure ontime delivery according to production needs.
  • To play an active role in achieving departmental objectives such as cost reduction targets yearonyear, supplier reduction and improved stock management.
  • Liaising with suppliers, service providers subcontractors, and Site/Contract Managers.
  • You will be required to do telephonic expediting of outstanding material by using the outstanding Purchase Order report.
  • Update Production Department and Project Team of probable late deliveries and any potential delivery issues that could result into a Customer Service issue informing QC Department.
  • Sourcing and building relations with new suppliers.
  • Annual evaluation of suppliers statutory compliance documents.
  • Ensure minimum stock levels of critical items are maintained.
  • Opening of Job numbers and allocating of all parts & labour hours required per individual job.
  • Including Standard & stock jobs.
  • Monitoring & issuing of stock in conjunction with closing of Jobs with all relevant budget & labour checks beforehand.
  • Reporting
  • Communicate frequently to workshop managers regarding the availability of stock and lead time from suppliers.
  • Monthly reporting on all necessary controlled items.
  • Controlling of "STD" items lists / part numbers & pricing on a continuous basis.

Qualification and skills:


  • Grade 1
  • Post Matric Qualification in Supply Chain Management or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years stock control and purchasing experience.
  • Must be computer literate MS Office.
  • Ability to understand basic engineering processes and information.
  • Substantial experience within a production environment.
  • Previous experience and exposure in mining industry and related industries would be a definite advantage.
  • Good understanding of how parts are made.
  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings.
  • Good understanding of what type of process is required to manufacture specific components.
