  • Vitality Global, a subsidiary of Discovery Limited, is responsible for the expansion of the Vitality Shared-Value Insurance business model beyond South Africa and the UK, serving to fully leverage the assets and intellectual property of Discovery beyond its primary markets. The business forms equity or contractual partnerships with leading global insurers to integrate Vitality and shared value with partner's insurance and financial services products in the markets where they operate. Vitality Global also operates a business providing wellness solutions to employer groups in the United States. Vitality Health International, a business unit within Vitality Global, coordinates and focuses on resource allocation to Discovery's emerging global health insurance initiatives. Vitality Global is also responsible for Discovery's 25 percent equity investment in Ping An Health, the largest comprehensive medical insurer in China. Taken together, Vitality's businesses jointly reach more than 30 million lives across 40 markets, delivered through partnerships with leading insurers on every continent.
    About the role
  • This position on the Vitality China team, based in South Africa, aims to enhance the value of the Discovery investment in Ping An Health, and to deepen and make more effective the relationship between Discovery and Ping An Group. This will include regular engagement with and feedback to key stakeholders in Discovery and Ping An, as well as the implementation of projects to advance the business in a sustainable and profitable manner.

The key facets of the job are:

  • Effective and impactful governance and reporting in both the Discovery environment and the Ping An environment.
  • Deepening the Discovery-Ping An relationship, both to enhance the value of the existing investment in Ping An Health as well as to potentially generate new business with Ping An Group in future.
  • Supporting the Vitality China expat team in Ping An Health to deliver impactful projects in the business.
The role reports to the leader of the Vitality China team in South Africa.


Key Outputs / Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

  • Supporting the Vitality China expat team in Ping An Health to deliver impactful joint DSY-PAH projects.
  • Data & Actuarial.
  • Risk Management.
  • Health & Wellness (Vitality).
  • Advising the Vitality China CEO (currently David Ferreira) and other senior Discovery leaders on the management of Discovery's PAH investment, including through regular engagement with and feedback to key stakeholders.
  • Enabling the Vitality China CEO to effectively discharge her/his duties as a Director of Ping An Health, and to conduct the relationship with Ping An Group in an impactful manner, both to enhance Discovery's investment in Ping An Health and potentially to develop new business with Ping An Group.
  • Compiling, incorporating specialist input, and presenting of regular reports to the Vitality China CEO and other senior Discovery executives, for:
  • Interim and end-of-year results.
  • Shareholder Business Review Meetings with Ping An Health and Ping An Group.
  • ExCo and Board updates at Discovery Group and Vitality Global levels.
  • Working closely with the Vitality Global Finance team:
  • To give input on the financial position of the company.
  • To guide in the formulation and management of forecasts.

Work Experience
-
Minimum_:_ 3-5 years in a health insurer or medical aid, preferably in the areas of data and actuarial, risk management, and/or health and wellness (Vitality).

Advantageous: 5 years or more in a health insurer or medical aid, preferably in the areas of data and actuarial, risk management, and/or health and wellness (Vitality), with exposure to foreign markets.


Education / Qualifications / Accreditations with Professional Body

Required_:_ Postgraduate degree in a relevant field such as actuarial science, finance or medicine;
_or_ an undergraduate degree in a relevant field, with accreditation of a relevant professional body.

Preferred (would be advantageous): Postgraduate degree in relevant field with accreditation of a relevant professional body.
