Description

Purpose of the role
To produce exclusive, relevant, compelling, and factually correct news articles for the
publication to the deadline on a weekly basis and to create news content for the publications'
online platforms on a daily basis.
Job description
Deliver exclusive/own EWN content on an ongoing and consistent basis
Deliver news on a daily and hourly basis on general news issues
Deliver long-form audio pieces and podcasts where assigned
Live tweet updates of developing stories, from press conferences and events
Perform Q and A's on talk radio shows
Pitch original stories with both radio and digital teams, making sure that they work for online, social, and broadcasting platforms
Find and brief contributors for live and edited stories and interview them for broadcast
Stay abreast of current affairs - local, national, and international news
Adhere to editorial guidelines and industry codes of practice
Develop sources for general assignments and special areas of interest
Operate news gathering vehicle to and from various locations
Alert editors to breaking news and be ready to file accurate, immediate on-the-spot report
File live into bulletins from the scene of stories
File multimedia content where required, including, but not limited to, audio, video, and/or photos
Maintain relations with all news sources on a daily basis to develop story ideas and compile appropriate reports
Collaborate with the news editor to improve story presentation
Education

Diploma/degree in Journalism or relevant work experience essential
Skills required
Minimum of four years' experience
In-depth knowledge of news and current affairs landscape
Extensive contact base
Passionate about news and setting the news agenda in the industry
Impeccable general and current affairs knowledge
Knowledge of recording and editing audio
Solid knowledge of working on social media platforms
Digital sound editing knowledge
Excellent reading and writing skills in English
Excellent interviewing skills
Ability to meet half-hourly deadlines
Keen 'news sense"
Able to deliver under mínimal supervision in high-pressure situations
Willing to learn all aspects of EWN - from anchoring to reporting to online writing
