- Plan and conduct technical and problem-solving investigations and modifications on product/processes, technology or equipment.
- Liaise with internal clients, project managers, process engineering and maintenance support personnel and communicate technical information to cross-functional team members to ensure optimal service delivery.
- Monitoring the processes/equipment, assist and give inputs to financial studies, initiate and give inputs to HAZOP studies and do risk analysis to maximize the equipment's efficiency.
- Write technical reports, as part of motivation for modifications to improve productivity output on plant and equipment. Generate new documentation if affected by projects/modifications/upgrades.
- Using the modification process (MOC) and change proposal process (ECP), do improvement designs on equipment and production tooling.
- Generate and implement new ideas for improving processes while keeping abreast of relevant and new process information by conducting technical research.
- Assist engineering personnel with equipment upgrades/modifications and modernization of equipment.
- Give plant design inputs; assist in optimizing mass balances, equipment layout, equipment lists as well as inputs for design calculations to new business projects.
- Generate technical specifications for quotation purposes, ensure goal directed and cost effective designs in cooperation with consulting engineers and suppliers.
- Maintains and adheres to appropriate regulations within OHS Act, Explosives Act, and implements ISO and NOSA standards with respect to SHE/Quality/Engineering. Adheres and implements RDM Policies and Procedures to maintain high production and engineering standards.
- Provides technically innovative counsel /coaching to plant personnel to aid the simplification of engineering and technical skills transfer and identifying technical training needs.
- Provides input for capital, maintenance and overhead budgets/forecasts/modifications and project costs and identifies cost saving opportunities. WHAT QUALIFICATIONS YOU SHOULD HAVE
- Minimum qualification: Bachelor of Engineering: Mechanical
- Minimum of 8 years' experience as Maintenance Engineer
- Minimum of 5 years' experience as hand on Maintenance Engineer on production plants.
- Analytical thinker with good reasoning and problem-solving skills on multi-disciplinary projects.
- Has ability to work under pressure to meet delivery dates.
- Strong technical knowledge and experience in maintenance of machinery and equipment is essential.
- Decision-maker, motivated and self-disciplined.
- Proactive, investigative with tenacity & initiative.
- Planning and prioritization of multiple tasks, Organisational and administrative skills.
- Verbal and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of SHE/OHS/Quality Systems advantageous
- Explosives Act and relevant legislation advantageous.
- Driver's licence, Code 8 is essential.
- Work experience in a Hazardous Area environment will be advantages.
- Computer literate (MS Office) with good presentation skills.
- An advanced level of computer literacy is essential, i.e. design and data analysis

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FORTo design/develop and upgrade manufacturing plant and equipment in line with new product developments and optimization. This function includes involvement and initiatives related to maintenance of the manufacturing plant and equipment within the explosives environment. The Maintenance Engineer performs routine equipment maintenance, trouble shoot issues and effects the necessary improvements to the maintenance system as required.
