Metallurgical Manager

We are seeking an experienced and suitably qualified Metallurgical Manager to lead our metallurgical operations.

Salary:

$120,000 - $180,000 per year

Job Description

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

• Directing and planning all metallurgical work on site
• Developing and implementing process flowsheets, plant layouts, and material handling systems
• Managing budgets and ensuring cost efficiencies
• Providing technical expertise and guidance to the operations team
• Ensuring compliance with quality standards, policy, and governance requirements

The ideal candidate will have:

• A B-Tech/B.Sc. Degree in Metallurgy or related field
• At least 5 years of experience in a coal processing plant, including 3 years at senior management level
• Excellent communication and leadership skills

Key Responsibilities:

• Process Plan and Direct all Metallurgical work on site
• Manage the overall design of process flowsheets, plant layouts, material handling systems, manpower requirements, equipment procurement and material utilization for new projects
• Provide technical expertise for the plant operating performance, reduce waste and delays, promote cost reductions and achieve a high level of operating efficiency
• Evaluate current and potential processing methods
• Create and manage budgets according to Company plans
• Implement, monitor and control business processes according to quality standards, policy, and compliance and governance requirements
• Ensure the development, alignment, mapping and implementation of end-to-end standard operating procedures/processes
• Research, enable and consult on improvements and opportunities to harness technology
• Provide Technical support to the operation team
• Translate technical specifications into an operations plan
• Analyse the recorded technical data and suggest process and technical improvements where necessary
• Function as a Metallurgical Engineering subject matter expert
• Provide metallurgical technical expertise to technicians, metallurgists and process plant operators
• Improve and adapt processes to create efficiencies
• Advise on improvement opportunities or changing legislation
• Monitor metallurgical performance and coach technicians/specialists on conducting tests to improve throughput and recovery
• Finance
• Monitor costs or expenses within approved budget to achieve cost efficiencies and reduce waste
• Comply with cost controls in order to achieve section budget
• Report on cost usage that reflects delivery of planned work within agreed parameters
• Identify and implement opportunities for cost reduction and to streamline processes
• Identify repeat failures that contribute to wastage
• Ensure good governance including the effective use of management systems to monitor compliance to business direction and policies
• Ensure financial documentation is maintained to support accurate record keeping and future requirements as per legislation
• Escalate potential risks that may lead to increased costs or financial losses

• Stakeholder Relationships Build working relationships across teams and functional lines to enhance work delivery, collaboration and innovation
• Build professional long-term relationships with stakeholders
• Ensure customer service solutions are aligned to the operational business plan
• Ensure product knowledge and advice is technically accurate and provide stakeholders with relevant information to keep them informed of products and service options
• Ensure timeous resolution of stakeholder queries and complaints and take ownership of issues
• People Coordinate, monitor and supervise the performance of direct reports Clearly define goals and objectives and provide direction, coaching and regular feedback
• Ensure compliance with all HR policies, procedures and standards
• Ensure conflict resolution and respond to any complaints or concerns
• Support skills development and transfer initiatives
• Ensure that all team members are competent to deliver the outputs of their jobs within a specified time after being appointed in the position
• Reporting Provide Feedback to be used in reports Ensure complete, timeous and accurate reporting with appropriate levels of escalation to enable effective decision-making
• Ensure feedback and progress reporting to stakeholders Adhere to statutory standards, policies and procedures within the business unit to ensure compliance at all times and take remedial action where necessary Monitor, analyse and audit the key business processes and metrics
