Duties/Pligte- Responsible for the overall management of the systems, administration and operations of health research ethics review for Stellenbosch University's two Health Research Ethics Committees;- Facilitating the development of, and compliance with, health research ethics standards, processes and policies at Stellenbosch University in line with evolving national and international ethics guidelines and regulations;- Managing the staff in the Health Research Ethics Office and creating and maintaining a service-friendly environment for health research ethics support;- Managing a health research ethics consultation service for Stellenbosch University researchers;- Developing and participating in health research ethics capacity strengthening for researchers and HREC members at Stellenbosch University;- Working closely with the chairpersons of the two HREC's, the other heads in the RDSD, and the Research Integrity Office of the University, and serving on the SREC and relevant faculty committees on behalf of the HREO.
Job Requirements/Pos Vereistes- A postgraduate qualification in Applied Ethics, Bioethics, Health Research Ethics, Clinical Research Ethics or a closely related field (excluding business/corporate ethics);- A minimum of three years' relevant experience working within a higher education environment;- Previous experience as a health research ethics committee coordinator, manager or chairperson, or alternatively extensive experience as a health research ethics committee member;- Proven ability to lead/manage a team;- Effective personnel management and communication skills;- Effective conflict management skills.
Recommendation/Aanbeveling- A doctoral degree in Applied Ethics, Bioethics, Health Research Ethics, Clinical Research Ethics or a closely related field (excluding business/corporate ethics);- Research experience, either in a specific professional discipline or in the research ethics field;- Experience in the health research ethics environment within a research-intensive institution;- Demonstrated knowledge of the current South African and international Research Ethics regulatory environment.
