    Investec is seeking an experienced Data Engineer to join the Private Bank Tech Data team in Sandton.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Design and build end-to-end BI solutions that extract data from multiple systems, transform, and load into multiple reporting data warehouses.
    • Collaborate with end-users and analysts on requirements and translate them into technical specifications, providing estimations to management.
    • Support existing BI platforms, reverse-engineer, and improve processes.
    • Contribute to departmental development processes, including standards, methodologies, testing, version control, documentation, mentoring junior members, driving industry best practices, evaluating new tools, designing, and improving ETL frameworks and data validation frameworks.

    Experience, Skills, and Capabilities

    • Excellent data analysis and exploration using T-SQL, strong SQL programming (stored procedures, functions), and experience with database engine internals.
    • Knowledge and experience of data warehouse modeling methodologies and SSIS script tasks.
    • Extensive experience with loading data from different sources (xml, csv, excel, web services, different databases, MQ messages etc.), Microsoft SQL Server performance tuning, backup and recovery, data encryption, capacity planning.
    • Significant experience designing solutions following Kimball methodology and good knowledge of data modeling concepts.
    • Post-release support of deployed BI solutions.
    • Experience building reports using SSRS, PowerPivot, integration with SharePoint, corporate reporting portals, KPIs, dashboards, self-service BI.
    • Delivering all stages of the data engineering process: data ingestion, transformation, data modeling, and warehousing, and building self-service data products.
    • Experience with Azure, particularly Data Factory, Synapse, and Databricks, and a good understanding of Data Lakes (specifically Azure Data Lake Gen2).
    • Building and maintaining robust and performant ETL processes.
    • Experience building Analysis Services databases and cubes (both multidimensional and tabular).

    General

    • Experience working in a team following agile development practices, using team development tools, and collaborating on shared objectives.
    • Wide knowledge of other tools, vendors, solutions available on the market, and upcoming releases of new software packages.
    • Experience with any modeling tools is beneficial.
