Job Summary

The role requires a selfdriven tax specialist with tax technical skills, an understanding of accounting principles and experience to support and be a trusted advisor to business in relation to financial transactions, group restructuring transactions, structured investments products and financial transactional product. To manage tax risk in relation to various direct and/or corporate taxes by ensuring compliance with tax laws (and regulations); providing quality tax advisory services to a range of stakeholders in the Everyday Banking, Relationship Banking, Product Solution and Africa Reginal Offices business clusters; managing stakeholders; overseeing and reviewing tax compliance processes and to support the Head of Tax in driving the implementation of the Group Tx strategy.

Job Description:

Support the Head of Tax in driving the implementation of the tax strategy and and ensuring optimal delivery of tax advisory services to meet stakeholder needs and enable business growth.
Continuously and proactively engage with and provide technical tax advise to stakeholders and Group Tax to ensure tax compliance with new and current tax legislation
Provide training to various stakeholders to optimise tax awareness and competence
Manage tax risk by supporting implementation of/implementing efficient tax controls and remediation processes
Identifying and implementing (or supporting implementation of) opportunities for tax savings
Identifying and implementing (or supporting implementation of) and tax process efficiencies through the use of technology
Supporting the Head of Tax in engaging with and managing internal stakeholders and external stakeholders (such as National Treasury, SARS, Industry bodies etc.) in contributing to the formulation of tax policy and ensuring that Absa's interests are advocated, protected and advanced.
To consult, provide opinions and guidance on tax projects, due diligence enquiries, SARS audits and queries, corporate finance transactions, transactional and product development initiatives, mergers and acquisition transactions and other business transactions/activities
Consult, provide opinions, implement guidance or support in relation to tax accounting, compliance, reporting activities carried on within and outside of the Group Tax function
