    Job Title: Head of Academics
    Nelspruit Campus

    Duties & Responsibilities:
    1. Create and manage the implementation of the campus academic delivery plan with Programme Managers, Teaching and Learning Specialists, Educational Technologists, Lecturers, Junior Lecturers, Information Specialists, and Assistant Information Specialists.
    2. Quality Assurance:
    • Implement academic policies.
    • Approve students' academic requests (exception apps).
    • Control assessment procedures, including security and invigilators.
    • Approve all lecturers on IIE programmes according to the IC appointment process.
    • Conduct surveys among students, lecturers, and technology users.
    • Oversee the peer review process, including implementation of the peer review schedule on site and monitoring of implementation plans with Programme Managers.
    • Visit classes: oversee the implementation of the class visit process.
    • Manage the graduation process on campus, including tracking of outstanding documents.
  • Student Discipline Management:
    • Ensure the implementation of the student code of conduct.
    • Address student disciplinary issues in consultation with the Campus Head or Campus Deputy Head.
    • Monitor compliance with student disciplinary processes.
    • Facilitate staff workshops on student disciplinary procedures.
    • Raise awareness about the safe campus policy.
  • Student Orientation Management:
    • Develop and coordinate the planning and implementation of the student orientation week.
    • Manage the development and presentation of orientation materials.
    • Design relevant support initiatives for new students.
    • Support the integration of new students into the campus and provide support to international students.
    • Evaluate, analyze, and report on the effective rollout of orientation and identify gaps.
  • Programme Management:
    • Schedule timetables; recruit lecturers; manage assessments (formatives, summative, CASS); monitor the IC claim process; manage the T&L budget; manage the library.
  • Student & Lecturer Support & Development:
    • Manage student wellness; oversee the management of student bursaries; lecturer support and development; student support and development.
  • Personnel Management:
    • Manage the appointment of resources; performance management; manage discipline in the workplace.
  • Training and Development:
    • Foster a learning culture within the team. Implement post-training activities (e.g., role play or on-the-job assessments to encourage employees to implement learnings).
  • Strategic, Tactical Plan and Academic Decision Making:
    • Devising campus strategic and tactical T&L plans; sound academic decision making; promoting the right academic and research culture.
  • Targets:
    • Ensure targeted pass, throughput, retention, and graduation rates for qualifications and programmes are met.
  • Reporting:
    • Ensure department reports are submitted timeously.
    • Assist the Campus Head in compiling the Opscom and MANCO Reports.

    Minimum Requirements:
    • Master's degree in Education/Business Management or equivalent is essential.
    • Honours in Education/Business Management.
    • Post Graduate Certificate in Higher Education or equivalent would be ideal.
    • 3 years' experience in student administration or academic support.
    • 5 years' operational management and academic experience.
    • 3-5 years of managing in a tertiary education setting experience.
