Role Context

  • The Senior Manager SSA RCG is responsible to define, support and steer improvements to regional processes in regards to handling of Restricted Commodities (Dangerous Goods, Life Animals and Perishables), to ensure all legal and safety requirements are met and to provide functional leadership to the Field Operations and guidance to Commercial in this specialist area. Ensure follow up of Day2Day Ops regarding DG across the SSA.
  • The Senior Manager SSA RCG is responsible to make, having collected the relevant information, an accident report to the management of the undertaking and/or to a local public authority, as appropriate, whenever an accident affects a person, affects or results in damage to property or the environment during the transport, receipt, acceptance, storage, loading or unloading of dangerous goods or other Restricted Commodities within the DHL network. The accident report must be in addition to any reports required under existing legislation
  • The Senior Manager SSA RCG (M/F) is responsible for supporting the management and control of restricted commodities in the DHL Express Network.
  • This function ensures that DHL Express DG service specifications are reflected in policies and procedures and provides support to SSA Customer Operations in their interface with customers regarding DG.
  • The Senior Manager SSA RCG is responsible for the processes behind DG services implementation in a region/country, this in close collaboration with Regional NCG and COG. She/he ensures that DG services are offered in line with Network capabilities and translates Commercial needs.
  • Senior Manager SSA RCG the implementation of Customer onboarding processes together with the Regional Teams and that Customer compliance is secured through a rigid review process.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitoring companies compliance with the rules governing the transport of Dangerous Goods and other Restricted Commodities
  • Advising his undertaking on the transport of Dangerous Goods and other Restricted Commodities;
  • Preparing an annual report to the to the management of the undertaking or a local public authority, as appropriate, on the undertaking's activities in the transport of Dangerous Goods and other Restricted Commodities. Annual reports shall be preserved for five years and made available to the national authorities at their request.
  • Ensuring the management of the undertaking is aware of all legal obligations.
  • Monitoring companies compliance with the DHL Restricted Commodities Policy & Procedures, Strategy and Management systems.
  • Monitoring companies compliance with Health & Safety, Quality and Environmental legislative requirements
  • Guiding the initiatives of the undertaking to achieve full compliance and optimum efficiency.
  • Liaison with the relevant local authorities within the country or the Area and regulatory bodies, industry associations and agencies (national and international) on matters relating to Restricted Commodities. Represent the undertaking and seek to have impact and influence with regulatory bodies, industry associations and agencies to develop and protect the company's commercial interests. Support the management all RCG Services and related processed and procedures, and ensure they are reviewed regularly and kept up to date in line with the current legislation and commercial needs.
  • Ensure proper follow up mechanism is in place to deal with Customer Failures
  • Support embedding all processes in Global SOP
  • Support the regular review of product and related service codes is completed and communicated
  • Support, coach and develop Country DG Coordinator and DG Instructor

Minimum Requirements

Education & experience

  • University degree or equivalent through experience
  • PC literate; data interpretation & analytical skills essential
  • High degree of numeracy
  • Minimum 10 years, preferably in aviation or logistics environment
  • Extensive working knowledge in either Aviation or Customer Operations with a record of accomplishment through operational experience
  • Knowledge about restricted commodities (Dangerous Goods & Live Animals) either through Quality Management or Customer Projects a plus
  • Minimum 5 years experience in providing Dangerous Goods training and developing training material at the highest level (example CAT6 or DG Acceptance Check)
  • Fluent in Writte
