JOB DETAILS:


Position Title:

JOB PURPOSE:


  • To ensure the efficient operations of the fuel tanker unloading at the Facility;
  • To assist various departments and stakeholders to resolve problems encountered at the Facility;
  • To assist in the identification of problems with plant equipment and clearly communicates the conditions associated with these problems to the Operations / Maintenance Team;
  • To assist in keeping high plant housekeeping standards, by ensuring that the plant is kept neat and clean;

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:


  • Assist with the unloading of fuel tankers in a safe manner;
  • Assist with the collection of the fuel delivery data / reports and or documentation and submit to the Shift Charge Engineer;
  • Coordinates with the Field Operator, Operation Engineer and Shift Charge Engineer on matters related to fuel tanker unloading;
  • Clean spillage of minor nature or request assistance for major spillage;
  • Do daily cleaning of work areas;
  • Conduct inspections as per the checklists, routine daily/weekly/monthly test checklists and equipment changeover checklists, etc.;
  • Understands and adheres to all Plant Safety Guidelines and Procedures.
  • Strives to maintain an injuryfree environment;
  • Understands and masters the Plant Emergency Handling Procedures;
  • Ensures a safe working environment for himself and his colleagues while working on any equipment;
  • Ensures all necessary precautions are taken by himself and Contractors while undertaking any jobs in the Power Plant (i.e. unloading fuel tankers);
  • Ensures that all necessary tools are available to ensure the safe working on equipment and used during the performance on all jobs at the Plant;
  • Participates in the applicable Plant Training and Qualification Program;
  • Assist Plant Operations and Maintenance teams to resolve problems encountered with plant equipment;
  • Works to his full potential and executes high quality work.

Work Levels and Conditions and Risks:

  • Work Level 5 (OSHA scale 1 to 6): the tasks that he performs as part of their daily work activities represent risks and are controlled by means of procedures, supervision, safety devices and HSE Teams in such a way that its non-observance that could lead to a serious accident or even death.

Exposure to Risks:


  • Traffic risks, ergonomic risks;
  • Risks inherent to the job of the Assistant Plant Operator while performing inspections, site visits, operations and maintenance activities, etc.

Personal Protective Equipment:


  • Hard hat/safety helmet;
  • Ear protection (plugs or ear muffs);

JOB CONTEXT:


  • IPR
  • GDF SUEZ Operations ("the Company") operates two open cycle peaking power facilities through its O&M Agreements with the Owners of Dedisa Peaking Power Pty Ltd and Avon Peaking Power Pty Ltd;
  • Dedisa Peaking Power Plant and Avon Peaking Power Plant has capacity of 342 MW and 685 MW respectively;
  • The Company is fully owned by GDF SUEZ with registered office: Block E, Lincolnwood Office Park, Woodlands Drive, Woodmead, 2191, Johannesburg, Republic of South Africa;
  • The Owner Company is 38% owned by GDF SUEZ, 25% by Mitsui, 27% by BEE SPV and 10% by BBBEE SPV;
  • The projects are Independent Peaking Power Generation projects, having a 15 years Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Eskom Holdings as a single offtaker;
  • The Job Holder will be based in/near Port Elizabeth/Durban, Republic of South Africa.

MODUS OPERANDI:


  • The Job Holder works as a member of the operations team of the Facility and reports to the Shift Charge Engineer.

COMMUNICATION AND WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:


The Job Holder will work and communicate with:


  • Internal: Maintenance, Operation and HSE Departments;

External: The Job Holder must communicate with the operations team, the maintenance technicians and Contractors as necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:


Qualifications:


  • Grade 12 / Matric / N3 Technical and or Equivalent
  • Trade Qualification;
  • Demonstrated competence at engineering / maintenance level supported by relevant education and training;

Experience:


  • At least 3 year experience in the operation of a power plant;
  • Use of safe systems of work
