    Description

    Job Summary

    This is a permanent contract position for a General Manager to oversee project execution in accordance with commercial contracts. The successful candidate will ensure that all Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and performance objectives are met while maintaining a strong safety culture.

    Key Responsibilities

    1. Deliver Opencast Mining services by managing production, drill, and blast activities, participating in mine planning, addressing mining challenges, and ensuring equipment is not exposed to damage.
    2. Create a Safe and Healthy Work Environment by acting as custodian of SHE standards, ensuring legal appointments are timeously in place, liaising with the Safety Manager, and participating in VFLs and Safety/wellness campaigns.
    3. Manage Engineering and Maintenance by ensuring the Engineering department is well-managed, monitoring equipment availability, providing support to the Engineering manager, and ensuring compliance with legal and safety requirements.
    4. Develop Commercial, Social, and Client Relationships by studying commercial contracts, engaging with client representatives, attending meetings, and establishing good relationships with community stakeholders.
    5. Ensure Effective Communication on Site by scheduling HOD meetings, informing top management of deviations, conducting caucus meetings, and distributing communication in accordance with TAU Mining line communication principles.
    6. Perform Human Resources Responsibilities by providing leadership, ensuring HR/IR policies are implemented, monitoring Labour Legislation compliance, and tracking issues raised.
    7. Manage Finance, Budgeting, and Reporting by compiling annual budgets, monitoring expenditure, implementing remedial measures, and allocating resources efficiently.

    Requirements

    • Mining Degree or National Diploma in Mining Engineering (Preferred) with at least 8-10 years related Opencast Mining experience.
    • Mine Manager's Certificate of Competence (Preferred)
    • Grade 12
    • Surface / Opencast blasting certificate.
    • Competency A training
    • Code EB Driver's license
    • Clean criminal record
    • Hazard Identification, Risk Assessment and Control Training (HIRAC)
    • Must have successfully completed Strata Control 2 course.

    Knowledge, Attitude, Skills & Abilities

    • Comprehensive knowledge of the Mine Health and Safety Act as well as applicable Labour Laws (LRA, BCEA, etc.)
    • Employee Relations skills and proven ability to deal with organized labour.
    • Excellent knowledge of opencast mining, mine planning, mining techniques and utilization of heavy earthmoving equipment.
    • Excellent communication skills, verbal and written in English.
    • High level of computer literacy (MS Office) with the ability to generate and present accurate reports.
    • Management & leadership skills.
    • Ability to motivate teams and achieve results.

    • Excellent interpersonal relationship skills.
