    ROLE PURPOSE Senior Engineer in the Wintel and VMware managed services environment, responsible for providing advanced 3rd line system administration, troubleshooting, and operational support.

    The role requires deep technical expertise across Windows Server, Active Directory, VMware virtualization platforms, Trellix Antivirus & Endpoint Security administration, and enterprise infrastructure services.

    The Senior Administrator contributes to technical decision-making, leads complex problem resolution, drives automation, and guides junior team members through mentoring and knowledge sharing.

    The role is critical to ensuring system stability, availability, performance, and operational excellence within managed services. ROLE REQUIREMENT Proactively provide technical guidance, coaching, and mentoring to team members. Serve as the technical lead for escalated and complex issues. Ensure adherence to technical standards, operational processes, and customer service expectations. Contribute to infrastructure and architectural planning to support long term operational stability. Participate in technical projects, upgrades, and lifecycle management activities. Drive continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to enhance systems, processes, and tools. Support documentation and reporting activities associated with service performance, risk, and compliance. Lead and drive key initiatives and improvement projects to completion alongside multidisciplinary teams. Lead OS, hypervisor, and platform security hardening efforts in line with governance and audit requirements. Take full ownership of service-affecting incidents, perform RCAs, and ensure permanent fixes are implemented. Monitor, manage, and continually optimise the efficiency, reliability, and performance of Wintel, VMware, and related support services. Identify trends, recurring faults, or risks, and initiate proactive remediation actions.

    PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCIES Advanced Wintel and VMware engineering expertise, including Windows Server, Active Directory, ESXi, vCenter, HA and DRS and Trellix.

    Antivirus & Endpoint Security administration. Strong troubleshooting ability for complex, escalated 3rd-line issues across compute, storage, and virtualisation layers. Solid understanding of ITIL processes with proven experience in incident, problem, and change management. Ensures compliance with operational, security, and configuration standards, including patching and hardening. Ability to plan and execute major upgrades, migrations, and technical changes with minimal service disruption. Proficient in documenting technical procedures, designs, and operational runbooks. Identifies optimisation and automation opportunities to improve efficiency and platform stability. Ensures effective monitoring, leads incident coordination, and drives RCA and permanent fix implementation. Collaborates effectively across teams and understands cross-platform impacts on service delivery. Provides 24×7 on-call support for critical operational issues.

    QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE Grade 12 with Maths & Science (Preferred) Tertiary Education in IT or similar Candidate should have a minimum of 10 years of experience in ICT, with at least 5 years in virtualisation system administration Experience in administering enterprise-scale virtualisation environments Vmware 7 or similar qualification in virtualisation environment Candidate should have in depth experience in hardware, system software, storage and networking.

    Vulnerability and Patch Management Backup and recovery experience Advanced shell scripting experience (Advantageous) Automation experience (Advantageous) ITIL Foundation certified (Advantageous)
