JOB PURPOSE
To provide multidisciplinary Instrumentation, automation and Control skills to ensure preventive and proactive maintenance and operation of the plant to achieve factory performance targets.
The Instrumentation Technician keeps the instrumentation, automation and control system operational by fault finding, correcting faults and documenting system changes.
WHAT WILL YOUR MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES BE:
- Analysis and faultfinding on instrumentation equipment, with strong problem-solving skills vital.
- Project management and team coordination
- Identify deviations and nonconforming items on equipment and assess exactly what steps to take to rectify these deviations and nonconformances
- Ensure that any breakdowns or short stops in area of responsibility are recorded
- Coordinate and facilitate shop floor training
Engineering
Diagnoses and interprets multi-disciplinary problems (fault finding) to optimize production output and carries out the plant repairs
Ensures that service levels are maintained at the required standards by carrying out all breakdown, preventative and predictive maintenance effectively
Support maintenance for area of responsibility and assist in all projects from an instrumentation, automation and control perspective that are running in respective area
Take responsibility of managing ICE systems in the Packing/Making area
Participate in strategic engineering plans to deliver maintenance benefits
Ensure availability and effective utilization of equipment and system integrity and backups
Problem Solving and Decision Making
Faultfinding and problem solving of engineering/ operational problems in his area by ensuring that the appropriate corrective action regarding any deviation from standards is taken
Identifies the major engineering losses in his area and investigates using problem solving methodologies
Supports Effective Maintenance
Contributes to the reduction of breakdowns in area of responsibility by analyzing breakdowns, complying with the preventative planned maintenance requirement and implementing continuous improvements
Participates in strategic engineering plans to deliver maintenance and breakdown reduction benefits
Administration
Completing all relevant Buildapp processes. Logging tags, SBOs etc. and ensuring team adoption.
Supports the digitalization agenda and cyber security in the factory
Ensures critical spare parts management together with the storeman
SHE
Ensures that Company safety rules and regulations are adhered to within the sphere of responsibility
Ensure Instrumentation and Control equipment comply with safety standards
Assist with quarterly audit if necessary
Ensure Instrumentation and Control aspects comply with QV (Quality Verification), ISO and IRCA (International Regulatory Chemical Agency) standards
Assists with behavioral safety to eliminate incidents and near misses
Autonomous Maintenance
Supports upskilling of other maintenance and operational staff through development of OPL's SMP's and other learning means
Completes tags in area of responsibility to the completion ratio required
Projects
Lead and manage instrumentation, automation and control projects. Define instrumentation scope and standards for new equipment installations, upgrades and plant changes
Leadership
Develop, mentor and coach interns
WHAT WILL YOUR MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES BE
Experiences & Qualifications
- BTech in Control and Instrumentation
- Expert knowledge in Instrumentation, automation and Control systems preferably in a FMCG environment
- Leadership skills and strong communication are vital. Experience leading a team will be an advantage.
- Experience and knowledge SAP/PMS (Plant Maintenance Systems) and instrument calibrations are vital.
- Control systems obsolescence management knowledge is vital
- Cyber security knowledge and experience will be an advantage.
