    Description

    Job Summary: Implement and maintain safety, health, and environmental awareness programs, ensuring compliance with regulations and policies in a construction industry setting.

    The ideal candidate will be responsible for implementing and maintaining awareness programs relating to safety, health, and the environment. He or she will also conduct the following functions to ensure compliance with safety, health, and environmental requirements.

    Main Responsibilities:

    • Monitor compliance of company SHE policies and procedures
    • Ensure a safe working environment for all stakeholders
    • Raise health and safety awareness and report on key issues
    • Enforce OHS policies
    • Collaborate with managers to ensure site complies with relevant safety legislation and regulations
    • Liaise with and report to official regulatory bodies on OHS matters
    • Attend, participate and/or facilitate safety meetings

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Assist with preparing method statements and risk assessments
    • Carry out continuous risk assessments for activities on site and in workshops
    • Monitor and assess unsafe conditions/behavior and make recommendations
    • Conduct Job Safety Observations to identify potential hazards

    Additional Responsibilities:

    • Compile and maintain SHE Files and supporting documentation
    • Perform daily site inspections and carry out safety corrective actions
    • Accompany client, auditors, inspectors, or other health and safety representatives
    • Report accidents, unsafe conditions, and unsafe acts to site management

    Incident Response:

    • Respond immediately to safety incidents/accidents and implement risk mitigation strategies
    • Support the incident management process in investigations, data gathering, and reporting
    • Provide input on corrective actions for all incidents, accidents, or near misses

    Record Keeping:

    • Assist with internal and external audits
    • Maintain and manage safety records, logbooks, registers, and documentation

    Training and Development:

    • Provide SHE training, awareness, and inductions on site to employees, contractors, and other relevant parties

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • SAMCPC Project and Construction Management
    • Grade 12
    • Drivers License Code B (Code 8)
    • First Aid Level 3
    • Basic Fire Fighting
    • HIRA
    • Basic Incident Investigation
    • Working at Heights

    Skills and Knowledge:

    • Minimum 5-8 years' experience in health and safety in the construction industry
    • Good computer skills - MS Excel and MS Word
    • Good verbal and written communication skills
