DESCRIPTION


The Pharmacist Assistant forms part of a team that will be implementing a COVID-19 Vaccination project within the Mpumalanga province.

The role of the Pharmacist Assistant is to maintain the cold chain of COVID-19 vaccines and to provide support to the project and vaccination teams.


PURPOSE


The Pharmacist Assistant is responsible for monitoring the adherence of cold chain requirements and establish controls across all vaccination sites.

The Pharmacist Assistant will provide support to the COVID-19 vaccination programme.


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work under guidance of the Pharmacists;
  • Ordering of COVID19 vaccines;
  • Maintain and monitor the cold chain;
  • Assist with management of vaccination supply;
  • Assist with logistic and reverse logistics;
  • Report daily findings and exceptions;
  • Address exceptions and implement measures with the support of the Pharmacist;
  • Manage quality assurance adherence to the cold chain;
  • Appropriately discard of medical waste;
  • Manage stock control for vaccination sites;
  • Design and implement appropriate waste management mechanisms;
  • Serve as the vaccine controller for the programme;

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

  • Working knowledge of COVID19 vaccination practice and procedures;
  • Knowledge and experience on pharmacy practise and cold chain management;
  • Ability to effectively control the cold chain of vaccines;
  • Ability to implement quality assurance checks for all vaccination processes within the programme;
  • Be able to report on findings;
  • Must be able to work well under pressure;
  • Strong oral and written communication skills;
  • Ability to problem solve;
  • Good administrative and report writing skills;
  • Attention to detail;
  • Ability to take corrective action as and when required;
  • Strong interpersonal skills

QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • NQF 4: Pharmacist Assistant (Post Basic);
  • Certificate in COVID19 Vaccination Training for Health Workers;
  • Registration with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC);
  • 3 years' work experience as a Pharmacist Assistant;
  • Experience in a COVID19 programme is advantageous
  • Travel and overnight between Johannesburg and Witbank as required.
