Great Africa Reserves (GAR) is an organisation (NGO) born from an ambitious vision to create sufficient space for free ranging indigenous wildlife to persist and be protected in perpetuity, whilst simultaneously tackling and breaking the cycle of poverty through nature-based enterprise solutions, and ultimately build a powerful model for adapting to and mitigating climate risk.


What we aim to achieve over the upcoming years is a considerable undertaking, and will require immense talent to succeed.

We're building a foundational team of A-players that will become stalwarts of our mission, each individual expecting to bring their best selves to meet the demands of our vision.

If successful, you'll become a part of possibly the single largest rewilding campaign in our lifetimes, with your influence yielding a direct impact on the South African ecosystem and, over time, a lasting legacy.


As a fixed-term role, this contract will run for (at least initially) a 12 month period, wherein our primary focus will be on Research and Development.

This period will be broken up into 3 key phases, each totalling at ±4 months:

Data Collection & research:

understanding the facts and figures and everything in between

2.


Intervention design:

developing strategies to mitigate the negatives and leverage the positives

3.


Implementation & readiness:

enabling these strategies through operational means

Duties & Responsibilities

How the work you will do fits into the bigger picture


Our ambitious mission requires that multiple stakeholders from various disciplines interact and share knowledge and expertise related to their fields.

The culmination of this insight will result in the creation of comprehensive business models and project management plans that are critical for mission success.

As a dedicated _Data Analyst _within GAR, your role will be to tell compelling stories using various data sets, to

really bring the data to life. More specifically, your responsibilities will include collaborating with the broader

GAR team to:

  • Source relevant data through scientificallyaligned research standards, including mining, scraping, cleaning and visualising data
  • Collate existing and new research data into a coherent 'golden thread' of ideas and concepts
  • Curate and manage a 'datarepository', where raw and cleaned data can be stored, managed and accessed through the creation of workflows and systems engineering
  • Report on research findings through various mediums, including updating business tools, generating articles (both internally
- and externally-facing) and informing pitch decks

  • Present research findings using the aid of robust datavisualisation tools and systems related to each field
  • Offer educated recommendations in light of report findings, to inform strategic planning and implementation
  • Review and edit reports produced for data quality and rigour
Experience & Education

  • An undergraduate degree in a relevant field is nonnegotiable
  • A postgraduate degree in a relevant field is desirable
  • Proven track record in data analysis, applied to a range of disciplines and industries
  • Experience collaborating in crossfunctional, diverse teams, particularly within South Africa
  • Access to a strong dataanalysis network for soundboarding, quality control and general resource management would be a plus

  • Strong attention to detail with an emphasis on data integrity, systems and workflows
  • Expertise in data scraping, wrangling and cleaning using industry bestpractices
  • Disciplined and outputdriven with the ability to adhere to deadlines and milestones
