Fabrication / Engineering company in the East Rand wants to employ a Quality Control Welding Inspector with extensive experience in Fabrication and pressure vessels with a N3 Mechanical Engineering, Boilermaker Trade and a Welding Inspection qualification and knowledge of codes and ISO 3834


Minimum Requirements:


  • N3 Mechanical Engineering
  • Welding Inspection Qualification
  • SAIW Level 1 or CSWIP Welding Inspector or IWI Standard
  • Mechanical Engineering or Metallurgical Engineering or Quality and Inspection
  • Relevant QC experience in metal fabrication engineering industry
  • Knowledge and proven working experience with pressure vessels codes of construction, specifications and standards
  • Previous working experience as a Boilermaker or welder is an added advantage
  • Good overall computer skills
  • Must have good interpersonal skills to be able to deal with production personnel and customers in a professional manner
  • Knowledge of ISO 3834 welding quality management industry

Daily work activities includes but not limited to:

  • Meet/Liaise with customers with regards to project requirements to plan QC requirements
  • Familiarize yourself with contract documentation
  • Participate during contract and technical review to ensure design and fabrication codes, regulatory, client quality requirements are met
  • Perform inspection at relevant interval as prescribed in various SOPs and work instructions or relevant QCP's
  • This will include inspection before, during and after fabrication
  • Coordinate outside inspections with authorized inspectors, vendors, customers, and other inspection agencies
  • Ensure that all measuring and testing instruments required for quality control interventions are maintained, validated/calibrated and certified at regular intervals
  • Maintain all calibration and validation records
  • Ensure that approved WPSs are followed during fabrication
  • Ensure that welders are assigned on jobs within their range of qualification
  • Ensure that welder's qualification are prolonged and confirmed every 6 months as required by the code of qualification i.e ASME IX and ISO 9606
  • Arrange for NDT with NDT contractors as and when it is required
  • Perform inspections at contractors as and when it is required
  • Perform inspections at contractors/subcontractors premises
  • Have authority to hold or suspend any production process or section until it can be performed according to the agreed standards
  • Review material certificates against applicable code/s of construction during receiving inspection, accept or reject the items as applicable
  • Work closely with Engineering and Production departments with regards to quality control statuses
  • Attend seminars, conferences, workshops, training etc. that will further benefit the position held and the company as a whole
  • Ability to perform tasks timeously and efficiently
  • Ability to self manage and organize your duties effectively
  • Good eyesight
  • Physically fit
