Duties/PligtePerforming independent research within the field of cardio-metabolic physiology and pathophysiology under the auspices and research focus areas of the
Centre for Cardio-metabolic Research in Africa (CARMA); Publication of peer-reviewed research articles as first and co-author;- Teaching, training, supervising and mentoring at postgraduate level (Honours, Masters and Doctoral, where applicable);- General management and quality control of the research laboratories in the Division;- Coordinating and liaising about the Division's compliance with the South African Veterinary Council's regulations on ethical animal research;- Providing assistance with orders of laboratory consumables and equipment when required;- Actively participating in research activities within the Division;- Providing assistance with undergraduate student practicals and exam invigilation;- Implementing current and developing new SOP's with regards to laboratory-based techniques used within the Division;- Overseeing research ethics compliance within the Division;- Managing weekly journal club sessions.
Job Requirements/Pos VereistesMSc in Physiology or a related discipline;- Evidence of publications in accredited, peer-reviewed journals;- Evidence of postgraduate student supervision on at least Honours' level;- Track record as independent researcher in the field of cardiovascular physiology and metabolism;- Proven experience in basic cell culture techniques;- Proven experience in protein analysis techniques (such as Western blotting);- Proven experience in advanced molecular biology techniques (such as quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) methods);- Evidence of Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) training.
