Senior Laboratory Assistant Role

Job Summary: We are seeking a skilled artisan with experience in maintenance and repairs of machinery in the Mechanical, Civil, and Electrical fields.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance and repairs on all machinery in the Mechanical, Civil, and Electrical workshops.
2. Occupational Health and Safety: Ensure that all workshops adhere to occupational health and safety regulations.
3. Preparing Materials: Prepare materials for practicals in the Mechanical, Civil, and Electrical workshops.
4. Practical Assistance: Assist lecturers with Mechanical, Civil, and Electrical practicals when more than 15 students are present.
5. Stocktaking: Conduct stocktaking in the Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, and Engineering Graphics and Design workshops.
6. Purchase Orders: Assist lecturers with obtaining quotations as indicated by the subject group leader.

Requirements:

1. A diploma (NQF level 6) in Engineering (Millwright/Boilermaker) with 18 months of practical experience in a relevant workshop.
2. A minimum of two years' experience in a workshop.

Desirable Qualifications:

1. Accreditation with MERSETA/DHET.
2. A minimum of two years' experience as a qualified artisan.

Technical Competencies:

1. Maintenance and repairs on all machinery in the Mechanical, Civil, and Electrical workshops.
2. Ensure that all workshops adhere to OHS regulations.
3. Prepare material for practicals in the Mechanical, Civil, and Electrical workshops.
4. Assist lecturers with Mechanical, Civil, and Electrical practicals when more than 15 students are present.
5. Stocktaking in the Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, and Engineering Graphics and Design workshops.
6. Obtain quotations for the Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, and Engineering Graphics and Design Workshops.
7. First Aid certificate level 1 (Not expired).
8. Fire Marshall certificate (Not expired).
9. Computer Aided Design (CAD) certificate.
