    About the Role

    We are seeking a skilled professional to collect quality safe blood and blood products according to specific targets set per blood drive (fixed or mobile).

    • Manage cost per unit for whole blood and specialized collections within agreed blood drive/donor centre target by determining, packing and loading consumables as per the target.
    • Maintain and validate equipment to ensure timely repairs.
    • Report increases/decreases in consumable usage to the Clinic Supervisor and discrepancies in stock deliveries.
    • Manage stakeholder relations at the blood drive and/or donor centre.

    Key Responsibilities

    1. Collect whole blood and/or apheresis units to meet assigned targets.
    2. Assist with setting up the blood drive, packing and off-loading vehicles efficiently and effectively.
    3. Conduct basic physical checks on donors as per SOP, capture relevant information and report deviations to the person in-charge.
    4. Document results of all basic physical checks on relevant record sheets/Donor Questionnaires.
    5. Inform clinic supervisor or designated deputy of irregularities immediately.
    6. Conduct confidential assessments with potential donors and educate them on high-risk behaviour.
    7. Care for donors during donation, provide refreshments and education.
    8. Initiate treatment in emergencies with the help of the in-charge/SANBS Medical Lead Consultant.
    9. Complete all documentation post-donation and additional reports/information as required.

    Educational Requirements

    • Diploma/Degree in General Nursing Sciences.
    • Code B or EB Manual driver's license.

    Experience and Knowledge Requirements

    • 2 years Registered Professional Nursing experience.

    Other Requirements

    • Understanding of relevant legislation; knowledge of company procedures.
    • Relevant SANBS policies and Procedures; Standards of Practice for Blood transfusion in SA.
