AVI Ltd. is known for its leading household brands across many categories including hot beverages, sweet and savory biscuits, and snacks, frozen convenience foods, personal care products, cosmetics, shoes, accessories, and fashion apparel.

AVI Logistics Support Services is a shared services business unit within AVI. Field Marketing focuses on sales and merchandising for the beverages, snacking, and cosmetic business units to provide greater focus and to achieve an improved execution at store level. Field Marketing has its very own National Call Centre to support the Field Marketing team.


Logistics Support Services is a support function to the AVI Group for distribution purposes. LSS has Distribution Centres located in Isando, Durban, Port Elizabeth, Cape Town, and East London. The Distribution Centres are responsible for the distribution of all National Brands products i.e. Biscuits, Snacks, Coffee, etc.

Key Performance Areas:


Recruitment and Selection:


  • Ensure that the recruitment process is followed in order to recruit effectively and reduce turnover (right person for the right Job) through accurate job descriptions, assessment, checks and targeted selection.
  • Discuss the long and shortlists with line managers and the recruitment lead.
  • Conduct interviews with management and recruitment.
  • Request the Letter of Appointment, providing all necessary information to the recruiter, check and sign off the letter before extending the LOA to the manager to sign.
  • Manage the induction process and ensure new employee induction/orientation takes place.

HR Reporting:


  • Responsible for all administration related to employee life cycle including new engagements, benefits, employee changes, leave analysis, terminations.
  • Attend to general requests/queries from internal and external customers.
  • Conduct exit interviews on resignations and report back to the business with insights.
  • Ensure high level and high standard of customer service and guidance in line with HR Policies and Procedures.
  • Develop and update job profiles for all employees and capture them into the Job Profile portal.
  • Coordinate HR Project deliverables.
  • Ensure HR Audit requirements are adhered to.
  • Develop adhoc reports as required by the HR team or the business unit.
  • Liaise with employees on Death and Disability claims and provide worksite with regular updates.
  • Manage long service allowances, generate reports, capture workflows, arrange the certificates and framing.
  • Provide employees with documents such as confirmation of employment letters, copies of payslips, service letters, visa letters, UIF, and Medical Aid documentation.
  • Accurate filing and record keeping systems are maintained.
  • Administer and coordinate site requirements in terms of annual changes as per the substantive agreements.

Industrial Relations:


  • Set up internal disciplinary hearings and grievance meetings and take minutes.
  • Attend monthly management shop steward meetings across all sites and take minutes and record signed minutes accurately.
  • Prepare all documentation/information for Disciplinary Hearings and CCMA cases.
  • Ensure that disciplinary and grievances are dealt with in accordance with company policies.
  • Represent the company at CCMA for worksite related disputes.

Performance Management & Training and Development:

  • Provide employees with relevant documentation with regards to performance management and reviews.
  • Ensure that IPA's are submitted on time, maintain a checklist of midyear and yearend reviews.
  • Provide guidelines on managing employee performance, address all general performance management or appraisal queries received from employees and management.

Payroll and benefit administration:


  • Oversee all administration related to employee life cycle.
  • Capture payroll (overtime; allowances; ad hoc payments; hampers) for employees on SAP.
  • Validate and track overtime and raise anomalies with line managers.
  • Administer and assist with all employee benefits (Pension/Provident/Medical Aid/ Funeral and Death claims).
  • Attend to and manage all payroll queries.
  • Advise HR Admin of any changes to employee details and information.
  • Ensure effective communication to the Operations teams on HR policies and procedures.
  • Ensure personnel files are properly maintained and secured.
  • Provide back up support for Time and attendance and TES payroll.
