    About the Role

    As a legal editor, you will manage a portfolio of publications for the Canadian Secondary Content team. You will work with external authors and freelance legal writers to ensure that they deliver the content in a timely manner and will edit that content to ensure adherence with our editorial guidelines.

    Responsibilities

    • Managing a portfolio of secondary titles, including textbooks, loose-leafs, newsletters, and/or law reports.
    • Creating and maintain author relationships for existing publications, ensuring timely receipt of manuscript in proper format.
    • Coordinating reviews on manuscripts to ensure they adhere to our author guidelines and provide feedback to authors.
    • Sourcing appropriate articles for newsletters, and arranging permission to republish them.
    • Identifying authors or freelance legal writers for new and existing publications; and developing new publications.
    • Drafting and negotiate publishing contracts.
    • Acting as the first point of contact for authors and colleagues for publications within your portfolio.
    • Completing various administrative tasks, including data entry, processing invoices, scheduling customer interviews, etc.

    Requirements

    • Experience in legal editing or holds an LLB.
    • Have legal practice or legal publishing experience.
    • Display organizational skills and keen attention to detail.
    • Able to manage multiple projects simultaneously, and to meet rigid and frequent deadlines.
    • Possess interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively as part of cross-departmental and cross-jurisdictional project teams.
    • Maintain communication (oral and written) and negotiation skills.
    • Able to work flexible hours to collaborate with authors and colleagues across multiple time zones.
    • Core hours are 12pm – 6pm SAST, but flexibility to attend meetings beyond 6pm SAST on a regular basis is required.
    • Possess Technical proficiency with Acrobat and Microsoft Office, and comfort learning new software and tools.

    Will be considered an asset:

    • Strong legal research and writing skills.
    • Experience in working in a remote team environment.
    • Publishing industry experience.
    • Knowledge of and experience in one or more areas of practice.
