    Research and Development Manager

    We are seeking an innovative and detail-oriented Research and Development Manager to lead product development initiatives within the food industry. This role is responsible for driving new product innovations, improving existing products, and ensuring compliance with quality and food safety standards.

    Responsibilities:

    • New Product Development: Develop new products and technologies based on scientific principles, aligning with market demands and company goals.
    • Product Improvement: Identify opportunities to improve current products for performance, cost-effectiveness, and quality.
    • Technical Support: Drive product development, cost reduction, and maintenance through technical support to Quality and Operations teams.
    • Continuous Improvement: Lead continuous improvement initiatives within the R&D department and facilities.
    • Product Testing: Oversee product testing, technical troubleshooting, and ensure product specifications align with customer expectations.
    • R&D Project Management: Manage R&D projects from inception to commercialization, including technical timelines and risk analysis.
    • Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain relationships with customers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders to support business growth.
    • Innovation Identification: Evaluate and select new ingredients, developments, and industry trends for innovation opportunities.
    • Process Trials: Conduct process trials in R&D labs, pilot plants, and manufacturing facilities, scaling up for large-scale production.
    • Margin Improvement: Identify and implement margin improvement opportunities on existing products.
    • Reporting and Communication: Prepare detailed reports, analyses, and presentations for senior management decision-making.
    • Internal and External Communications: Maintain effective internal and external communications to achieve organizational goals.

    Key Skills:

    • Project Management: Strong project management skills, with the ability to handle multiple projects and prioritize effectively.
    • Financial Acumen: Solid knowledge of financial principles for managing project budgets.
    • Technical Communication: Expertise in communicating technical information to non-technical audiences.
    • Experimental Design: Advanced understanding of experimental design, statistics, and data analysis.
    • Food Safety Standards: Knowledge of food safety standards, HACCP, and related quality control processes.
    • Critical Thinking: Proficient in critical thinking and problem-solving with attention to detail.
    • Interpersonal Skills: Effective interpersonal and relationship-building skills with cross-functional teams.
    • Industry Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in the food industry, preferably in product development and innovation.
    • Enzyme Applications: Experience with enzyme applications and scientific formulation processes.
    • Statistical Analysis: Proficiency in statistical analysis and the use of Design of Experiments (DOE) in project work.
    • Scientific Insights: Ability to apply scientific and engineering insights to product research, formulation, and commercialization.

    Qualifications:

    • Tertiary Qualification: Tertiary qualification in Chemistry, Consumer Science, Food Technology, or related field.
