    CORE PURPOSE OF JOB


    To enhance and promote research in the faculty under the theme's critical education and humanising pedagogy through:

    •Facilitating the teaching, learning and assessment of diverse undergraduate and postgraduate students.

    •Supervising and guiding the research of postgraduate students at Honours, Masters and Doctoral level.

    •Conduct, publish and promote research in the field of critical education and humanising pedagogy,

    •Maintain an active research profile and are known nationally and internationally for their work on critical education and humanising pedagogy.

    •Participate in faculty activities and assume administration responsibilities as required.

    •Contribute to the building of a research culture in the faculty.

    •Mentor and support junior researchers in the faculty.

    •To play a leading role in the development of the Post Graduate Studies department.

    •To initiate and lead community engagement activities that focus on critical education and humanising pedagogy.


    KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS



    •Facilitate the teaching, learning and assessment of a diverse group of undergraduate and postgraduate students on the theme's critical education and humanising pedagogy.

    •Promote, guide and supervise the research of Honours, Masters and PhD students.

    •Conduct research independently and in a team on critical education and humanising pedagogy.

    •Independently and collaboratively present at national and international conferences as well as publish in nationally and internationally on critical education and humanising pedagogy.

    • Initiate and promote cross-, multi- and trans-disciplinarity and contribute to the ongoing revitalisation of the Humanities and Social Sciences.

    • Initiate and lead community engagement projects focused on critical education and humanising pedagogy.

    • Play a leading role in faculty management including curriculum development and administration activities as required.


    CORE COMPETENCIES



    •Have a sound knowledge and extensive expertise in critical education and humanising pedagogy.

    •Ability to facilitate teaching, learning and assessment activities for a diverse group of undergraduate and postgraduate students in critical education and humanising pedagogy.

    •Possess the ability to develop a curriculum and teaching resources for modules on critical education and humanising pedagogy.

    •Possess the ability to guide programme development that is underpinned by the principles of critical education and humanising pedagogy

    •Proficiently navigate and utilise the Moodle Learning Management Systems (LMS) to facilitate effective online teaching and learning experiences.

    •Ability to promote and supervise the research of Honours, Masters and Doctoral students.

    •Ability to conduct research independently and in a team; and produce scientific scholarly outputs in the fields of critical education and humanising pedagogy.

    •To maintain an active research profile and be known nationally and internationally for their work on critical education and humanising pedagogy.

    •The ability to mentor and support younger faculty staff members.

    •Possess effective communication skills (verbal and written), good facilitation, training and presentation skills.

    • Be a critical thinker that have strong leadership and management skills

    •Must have at least 5 - 8 years of teaching experience at a higher education institution.


    REQUIREMENTS


    Should be a recognized leader in the fields of critical education and humanising pedagogy both nationally and internationally.


    A doctoral degree in Education or related field of study.


    An established record of postgraduate supervision.


    A strong and consistent record of publications in the fields of critical education and humanising pedagogy. (At least 20 articles in accredited journals).


    Evidence of academic and administrative leadership.


    Strong track record of socially responsive scholarship, community engagement and public or professional service.


    Scholarship anchored in approaches that seek to find critical, relevant, and appropriate solutions to challenges that will benefit society to create a socially just world.


    3-7 years relevant working experience as a professor/associate professor.


    An NRF rating would be an added advantage.
