    We are seeking a Senior Risk Engineer to join Emerald based in Fourways.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Provide technical information services to Portfolio Managers, Portfolio Executives and Underwriters on risk control standards and requirements.
    • Plan and control the work activities of external/contracted independent surveyors.
    • Maintain high standards of Fire and Engineering surveys and set minimum Information and Risk description requirements.
    • Prioritize Survey requests and allocate Survey activities.
    • Develop junior engineers in terms of their interpersonal skills, report writing ability and analytical skills.
    • Manage a survey information system and risk engineering database.
    • Prepare Risk Recommendations Requirements and monitor their implementation.
    • Liaise with industry bodies and re-insurers regarding effective Fire and Risk protection and mitigation standards.
    • Perform ad-hoc Fire and Risk surveys (including post loss surveys) and generate reports.

    Requirements:

    • FCII, ACII or relevant tertiary qualification; registration with an industry body is preferable.
    • 10 years experience in insurance risk assessment and loss control environment.
    • Knowledge of fire protection and engineering principles in corporate risk and industrial environments, including Machinery Breakdown.
    • Deep understanding of Deemed to Satisfy Rules of National Building Regulations and applicable legislation.
    • Able to calculate and assess Maximum Probable Loss exposures.
    • Thorough knowledge of risk management and risk control principles.
    • Good understanding of business processes and business continuity.
    • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
    • Staying up-to-date with industry and technical standards and developments.
    • Providing in-house technical information systems and developing systems to support this service.
    • Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external clients and stakeholders.
    • Proven analytical skills and training in analytical techniques and process safety studies (MOC/FMEA/Hazop).
    • Familiarity with MHI regulations and Mine survey activities is advantageous.
    • Experience with design procedures and application of design and engineering standards, especially in relation to fire protection.
