Occupational Health & Safety Manager


Location:
Pinelands, Cape Town

We are currently looking for an
Occupational Health & Safety Manager

Job Purpose

  • Ensuring overall (and subsidiaries) compliance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act 85 of
1993, as well as related legislation, by-laws and regulations, and relevant Policies.


Business resilience:
o Support to the Business Continuity Coordinator (BCC) including effective collaboration with Group and Business structures to achieve BCP objectives in the capacity of the

Emergency Coordinator.


o Property Shop / Anchorage:
BCP and crises management

  • Responsible for the compliance with the Security Risk Policy, in conjunction with the Property


Committee, which includes presenting and executing on an annual strategy to comply with the aforesaid policy and executing and reporting on physical security risk events.


  • The incumbent is individually accountable for achieving results through own efforts and could include staff supervision over periods of 3 months to a year.

Health & Safety:


  • Acts as the Management Nominee and effectively collaborates with Group and Business
- structures to achieve objectives.

  • Ensure that the client adheres to Occupational Health & Safety regulatory requirements, as well as related policies across Functional Areas and Distribution Channels.
  • Ensures Occupational Health & Safety structures are established and maintained across the company in line with company requirements.
  • Operationalise and ensures execution of the Health & Safety Strategy, including assessing, monitoring, and reporting to the relevant committees for oversight.
  • Manages and takes responsibility for emergency preparedness practice in the company. Send out monthly updated Mutual Park and branch list for updates and training requirements. Send training requests to Vendor (First Aid/H&S Rep/Fire reps). Attend to booking, PO's, payment, and confirmations to attendees. Ensure delivery of Certificates and courier to regions.
  • Responsible for engagement with Department of Labour and ensuring that the company complies with Department of Labour by providing documentation timeously. Manage process until finalization.
  • Log all workrelated incidents with CIRC within 30 days in terms of the COID Act. Manage process until finalization.
  • Facilitate process for the company's letter of good standing annually.
  • Prepare documentation and conduct coherent sitespecific health and safety inspections to ensure that premises, and construction projects relating to such premises, comply with applicable legislation and policies. Perform the hazard identification and risk assessment.
  • Keeps abreast of all current and pending legislation pertaining to Occupational Health & Safety and related legislations, bylaws and regulations, as well as the relevant Policies and responds to changes proactively and appropriately.
  • Conduct health and safety audits.

Business Resilience:


  • Acts as support to the Business Continuity Coordinator (BCC) including effective collaboration with Group and Business structures to achieve BCP objectives in the capacity of the Emergency
Coordinator.

  • Support the execution of the Properties Business Resilience Strategy (incl. annual BR activities in line with requirements)
  • Support the ongoing assessment, monitoring and reporting of Properties Business Resilience Risk
Scenario Planning

  • Tends to work alone, however could include managing a small team.

Property Shop / Anchorage:


  • Conduct periodic updates on BCM Toolkit
  • Preparation of the Property Shop / Anchorage BCP plans for signoff by HoD
  • Attend to periodic BCP Desktop Walkthrough Test as well as other assessment / testing
  • Chairing any crises management and/or BCP events of the Property Shop / Anchorage

Physical Security

  • Key individual relating to physical security events
  • Responsible for compliance with the Security Risk Policy, in conjunction with the Property
Committee, which includes presenting and executing on an annual strategy to
- comply with the aforesaid policy.

  • Responsible to engage with Group Security structures in respect of compliance with the Security
Risk Policy, any physical security risk events, and other matters of escalation.

  • Responsible for ongoing assessment, monitoring and reporting to the Procurement Committee and ERCO.
  • Meet the physical security requirements as set by the Procurement Committee, Risk, and other functions
  • Managing the placing of security vendors / guard where required (e.g., high alert and/or intervention)
  • Arrange security responses for physical security events
  • Inform the Property Shop of potential threats which might affect normal operations (Crisis
Committee will communicate)

  • Regular reporting on the status of security risks.
  • Stay close to the media and other sources on planned actions as stated above
  • Attending crisis meetings
