Database Administration, Management and Support Functional Area

  • Control access to the client's production databases;
  • Manage procedures for backup and recovery of data;
  • Ensure data integrity and privacy;
  • Management of the provisioning of new databases;
  • Management and monitoring of existing databases and their related resources.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Installation, configuration and upgrading of Database server software and related products;
  • Optimize performance, such as server memory allocation, file fragmentation and disk usage;
  • Establish and maintain sound backup and recovery policies and procedures;
  • Implement and maintain database security;
  • Setup and maintain documentation and standards;
  • Provide database availability and maintenance including process management, job management, space management, automated backups and automated restores;
  • Monitor and plan database growth and changes (capacity planning);
  • Work as part of a team and provide 24x7 support when required; and
  • Troubleshooting database errors.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Appropriate ICT Qualification or equivalent in Computer Science or Engineering or Informatics qualification at NQF Level 6 or higher;
  • Microsoft Certified (e

Data Management and Analytics or similar); and


  • A valid driver's license and willingness to travel. Minimum experience 1. 5+ years of experience in database administration role within a Microsoft driven technology environment including SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS), SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) and SQL Server analysis Services (SSAS).

Required skills and knowledge

  • Knowledge of database administration and automation tools such as (but not limited to) SQL Server Management Studio;
  • Sound knowledge of RDBMS concepts, database architecture and SQL/T-SOL;
  • Sound knowledge of SQL server profiler for monitoring and troubleshooting database activity and performance;
  • SQL backup and restore; knowledge;
  • Strong knowledge in mirroring, replication and log shipping; and
  • MS Azure knowledge.
