Job purpose


The main purpose of this position is to implement various software systems for a bus transport company to enable the monitoring and control of various processes.

The work will entail data cleansing and upload, system configuration, end user training and management reporting.


Systems implementation and support:


  • Implement a client enquiry to invoice system in the sales teams
  • Expand the use of the client enquiry system to include automatic supplier quoting and route monitoring of external suppliers.
  • Implement a

Fleet Management System:

route definition and monitoring, fuel consumption monitoring, maintenance scheduling and cost allocation, incident monitoring, driver and vehicle license management.


  • Implement an automated or human driven interface between the Sales client enquiry system and Operations Fleet Management System to seamlessly transfer trip information between the two departments.
  • Integrate electronic scanning data into the Fleet Management and Financial systems as appropriate (e.g. washbay SLA control, tyre cost control).
  • Train users on the use of the software, and do troubleshooting / support on a daytoday basis.
  • Assist with the implementation of the management reporting drumbeat by creating the required reports or teaching managers how to create and interpret the reports.
  • Advise the management team on IT strategy and optimisation (software selection and costs, hardware, risk management, consolidation of platforms, licenses etc.)

IT support

  • Manage internet, hardware and software service providers on behalf of the client.
  • Onsite support with hardware, software and internet problems.
  • Potentially implement IT and office infrastructure for a new location.

Work environment
Work is performed in a workshop / bus depot environment. The incumbent shall be exposed to those conditions normally encountered in a workshop and bus depot environment. There are no physical demands in the execution of duties. The incumbent must be able to see and hear in the normal range, with or without correction.


Competencies, skills and characteristics

  • Strong administrative and organisational skills
  • Highly IT literate: implement, operate and maintain various software tools, including MS Office
  • Software training for end users across a range of computer literacy levels.
  • The capacity to prioritise tasks and work under pressure Good judgement and decisionmaking skills
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Willing to work after hours when necessary to meet deadlines or deal with emergencies

Experience and qualifications
years experience in similar roles

  • Knowledge of transport industry would be an advantage
  • Tertiary diplomas or degree in IT related work would be an advantage
