Urban Planner - Cape Town, South Africa - V&A Waterfront
Description
Job Objectives:
Planning Applications
- Determine the applicable regulatory framework for projects
- Research and identify planning and development issues
- Coordinate, manage and review inputs throughout planning approval processes
Technical and Professional Support

Assist with approval of building plans
- Assist with the assessment of the feasibility of proposals
- Prepare and manage reports and comments on developments and projects
- Liaise with company's Business Units on relevant planning information
- Provide input into spatial planning and development issues in the Waterfront
- Conduct site visits and inspections
Project Management
- Manage planning approval processes with regard to active Development department projects
- Coordinate and manage communication of planning and related information with internal and external parties, and authorities
- Coordinate and manage internal resources and consultants
- Manage relevant records, past plans, reports, approvals and documents via an effective document managementsystem
Research
- Research and review local and provincial planning legislation, policies, development plans and frameworks
- Draft reports and position statements on planning issues, authorities' policies and spatial plans
Educational Requirements**:
- Post graduate Urban and Regional Planning Degree (NQF level 9)
- Certificate Course/s in Built Environment / Environmental field
- Registration with South African Council of Planners (SACPLAN) as professional Planner
Knowledge Requirements**- Town Planning Legislation, Environmental, and Heritage Legislation
- Local and Provincial Government Development Policies and Frameworks
- Urban development and planning principles and issues
- Understanding of 'Package of Plans' planning approval system
- Reading and interpreting plans and drawings related to planning and related disciplines
- Knowledge of map and graphic work
