Requirements:

Professional degree in Town Planning/ City and Regional Planning

(4-year planning-specific undergraduate or postgraduate degree);

At least 5 years' postgraduate experience in the field of

town planning, which should include extensive experience in

the compilation of forward planning frameworks and/or planning

policy;

At least 3years postgraduate experience in the field of use

management, including compilation and/or assessment of

Registration with the South African Council for Planners

(SACPLAN) as professional planner (evidence to be

attached)

Spatial planning analysis/ appropriate GIS/ modelling or

programming experience is highly advantageous

A valid Code B driver's licence.

Key Performance Areas

Develop short

- to long-term metropolitan, district, local, site and/or

sector-based plans/ development frameworks, strategies, policies/

guidelines in order to direct investments by all relevant parties

aligning to a wide variety of City strategies;

Provide spatial planning expertise, technical expertise and

specialist support to other line departments involved in various levels

of integrated planning over varying cycles and periods

Facilitate internal and external stakeholder engagement

processes relating to the identification, preparation and

adoption of spatial plans, strategies, policies and guidelines for

integrated built environment development;

Provide spatial planning comments on land development
Cross sectoral/ transversal coordination of projects for the

urban planning and design department in partnership with

other department such as engineering, community service &
health, environment, heritage, budgets and policy & strategy

generating practical solutions for development and urban

growth challenges faced by a fast growing metropolitan

government in South Africa.
