A permanent position exists within the Group Risk Division for Head: Risk Governance and Portfolio Management of the IDC.

The position will be based at the IDC Head Office in Sandton and will report to the DE:
Group Risk.


JOB PURPOSE

  • Formulation and Review of the Risk Appetite Framework, including adoption of best practice methodologies;
  • Management of rating and pricing models and methodologies, including IFRS 9 models to align with Basle principles
  • Leadership and management of risk policies, systems, and procedures;
  • Leadership and management of sustainability policies, systems and procedures.
  • Leadership of country risk and financial institutions risk management.
  • Management and reporting of risk strategies, including portfolio risk assurance.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ownership of internal rating and pricing models and systems, including ongoing review and testing of methodologies, guidelines, and procedures in line with Basle/other standards and working with external parties where necessary;
  • Oversee IFRS 9 impairment model functionality and ensure accurate, timely reporting of impairment figures in line with best practices;
  • Formulation of a dynamic portfolio risk appetite model, including sector and country stress testing for ongoing appetite assessment;
  • Enhance credit risk management systems and procedures by identifying and closing gaps and inefficiencies,
  • Provide advice and build strong relationships with stakeholders along the risk value chains covering specifically risk appetite and processes;
  • Champion credit and investment risk policy formulation, review, approval and implementation;
  • Custodianship and reporting on risk policy plans, ensuring standardization in line with prescripts as set by the organisation from time to time;
  • Undertake credit risk assurance of managed portfolio, including sample and/or deepdive assessments and tests and provide proposals on improving the quality of the book;
  • Presentation and reporting of portfolio positions and trend analysis to different committees including Board Risk & Sustainable Committee;
  • Presentation on portfolio matters to different stakeholders such as Rating agencies, Lenders and other DFIs;
  • Chairing of monthly Investment Monitoring Forum or other portfolio committee and a voting member of relevant internal management committees.
  • Accountability for the formulation, implementation and internal communication of sustainability risk guidelines, policies, methods, systems and procedures that drive ESG initiatives adopted by the IDC and in alignment with Business stakeholders;
  • Oversee the development and review and implementation of Country Risk and Financial Institutions policies, models, systems and procedures;
  • Participation in different forums and projects which align with area of responsibility and seek to addvalue to the Corporation, such as the data integrity project, automation of credit processes and reporting;

QUALIFICATIONS:
(Formal qualifications)


  • Chartered Accountant (CA), MCom degree or equivalent post graduate qualification;

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE

(Formal qualifications, knowledge, type and length of experience and skills required to perform the job competently)

  • 10 to 15 year's relevant experience in a financial institution, preferably a DFI,
  • Working experience of Basel framework, models and principles
  • Experience in Portfolio management and reporting, including to senior committees.
  • Experience and knowledge of the endtoend credit risk management processes.
  • Experience in policy formulation and implementation;
  • Good understanding of quantitative models and proven trackrecord of project implementation and working with external stakeholders
