RESPONSIBILITIES:

The incumbent will be responsible for:

  • Facilitating learning in undergraduate and postgraduate modules, in both contact and distance education modules;
  • Developing and coordinating modules and programmes;
  • Supervising postgraduate students' research;
  • Being involved in and managing funded research projects;
  • Being involved in proposal and report writing;
  • Being involved in and participating towards the achievement of the Department's key performance indicators.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Lecturer

  • Completed MEd in Educational Psychology/Learning support Guidance and Counselling/ Inclusive education or a related field;
  • Evidence of teaching experience at a primary/secondary school;
  • At least one year's teaching and learning experience at a higher education institution in the field of educational psychology, e.g. in inclusive education, disability studies, or learning support;
  • At least one publication in an accredited journal
  • Experience as coordinator/tutor/academic supporter for Distance education modules offered by a higher education institution.

Senior Lecturer:


  • A Doctorate in Psychology / Educational Psychology / Learning Support Guidance and Counselling / Inclusive Education or related field;
  • At least three years' experience in tertiary education;
  • Evidence of at least five publications in accredited journals or an average of one article per year for the previous three years (or equivalent units);
  • A record of accomplishment of postgraduate research supervision, commensurate to the post level;
  • Conference papers delivered;
  • Community engagement in a related field;
  • Academic Administration;
  • Participation in departmental committees.
  • At least one year's teaching and learning experience at a higher education institution in the field of educational psychology, e.g. in inclusive education, disability studies, or learning support;
  • Experience as coordinator/tutor/academic supporter for Distance education modules offered by a higher education institution.

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):

  • Proven administrative and organisational abilities;
  • Collaboration and networking skills;
  • Computer literacy;
  • Report writing skills.

ADDED ADVANTAGES AND PREFERENCES:

  • Experience in the supervision of postgraduate students' research;
  • Intention to enrol for postgraduate (i.e. PhD) studies (if without PhD) in the field of e.g. visual impairment, inclusive education, disability studies, or learning support;
  • Current and recent experience in programme and module development and coordination;
  • Participation in funded research projects;
  • Publication record.
The annual remuneration package will be commensurate with the incumbent's level of appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines. UP subscribes to the BESTMED and UMVUZO medical aid schemes and contributes 50% of the applicable monthly premium.
