Applications are invited for the above-indicated vacancy within Newzroom Afrika. The incumbent will report to the PCR manager.
Job purpose

The t echnical news director is responsible for the supervision and production of the job card put forward to him/her which in our industry is the live broadcast of news and any other scheduled show.

Key Responsibilities

Oversees execution of the approved content via broadcast.
Oversees the entire production and crew by instructing where and when to broadcast content.

Adheres to the executive producers instructions such as dropping, moving of stories or other changes either to line - up or script.

Relays information from the E.P to the Anchors and entire crew.
Creativity ensures that the show is visually stimulating to the viewer.
Responsible for camera shot planning, lighting planning, audio planning and special effects.

As the key member of the production, the TD/supervisor controls when and how the bulletin goes to Air, meaning that he/she is the front person in charge of the broadcast.

Planning of the bulletin with the relevant departments within his/her crew.
Communicates with other relevant departments such as FCC and INGEST
Ensures that the product is of quality (lighting, Audio, Camera Frame) is in order
Enforces discipline on set and in the control room throughout the broadcast.
Debriefing by the E.P after the broadcast.
Trouble shoots in the event of an error whilst broadcast or lost live feed.
Communicates with field reporters and cameramen.
Ensures making decisions on bad content eg. Not taking bad content to air.
Ensures that the entire crew has conducted a system check.
Monitoring the prescribed time of the show and advises the E.P should he/she require more or less content.
Guides the anchor should they run out of questions.
Communicates with make-up and wardrobe
Assumes a leadership role and ensures that instructions submitted by their superiors are followed
Resolves crew issues to an extent and reports to the manager.
Overall supervisory function of the product and crew.
Daily technical production reports must be submitted to the Manager.
Responsible for ensuring that the crew is present for their contracted 9 hours shifts.
Skills and competencies
Matric plus a relevant certificate/diploma/degree in a field related to television production.
A minimum of five years of experience in a live studio technical director role.
A good ear and creative spirit.
Ability to follow instructions and remain professional under pressure.
Sound troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
Ability to work under pressure and stay calm when things go wrong.
Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
Professional self-starter with a growth mindset.
Must have excellent organisational and communication skills.

Must be an effective learner, with a curiosity and desire to learn and understand the entire scope of the studio and control room.

Possess strong fundamental understanding of video and audio production equipment and capabilities
Excellent command and understanding of English language
Good multitasking skills
Excellent computer skills
Willingness to work varied shifts
