    Job Description

    Responsible for civil infrastructure engineering detail design on mining and minerals processing plant projects/studies, including professional sign off. Coordinate and supervise design functions within projects/studies. Undertake technical reviews/audits to ensure designs meet project requirements and company objectives, produced in a timely and cost-effective manner. Provide coaching and guidance to less experienced staff to increase technical competence and knowledge of systems/procedures. Work safely, complying with HSE policies/manuals/procedures, considering health, safety, and welfare of fellow workers, visitors, clients, community, and environment.

    Key Responsibilities:

    1. Ensure quality and content of infrastructure design deliverables meet client needs and regulatory authorities' requirements.
    2. Prepare/review engineering deliverables, including technical specifications, contract specifications, design criteria, calculations, reports, evaluations, and other documents required by the project.
    3. Input capital estimates, including quantity calculations.
    4. Set/review man-hour budgets for engineering and drafting, recommend additional manning as required.
    5. Monitor progress and performance of project discipline teams, provide feedback and support.
    6. Oversee/manage design scope changes.
    7. Provide feedback to the project engineering manager on design progress, budget, and schedule.
    8. Provide technical/commercial direction to engineers on design quality, schedules, and budgets.
    9. Prepare/review feasibility studies documentation and estimates.
    10. Assist engineering management to assess staff suitability and identify key resources for specific projects.
    11. Ensure designs are cost-effective and optimal in terms of constructability, maintainability, serviceability, and safe operation.
    12. Maintain/adhere to design engineering standards on all projects.
    13. Review tenders, produce technical adjudications/recommendations.
    14. Review contractor documentation for compliance with project specifications.
    15. Analyze feedback from fabricators/construction personnel to improve performance.
    16. Conduct site inspections, provide technical support during construction.
    17. Hold regular design group meetings within a project context.
    18. Provide timely reports regarding discussions held and progress made.
    19. Record all project correspondence.
    20. Allocate work, provide technical assistance to discipline engineers/designers.
    21. Input progress reports, listing achievements/highlighting issues as required.
    22. Work closely with consultants, other disciplines, and Project/Study Managers to ensure clients' objectives are met.
    23. Drive professional development of direct reports and less experienced staff members.

    Requirements

    B. Tech./B.Eng. Civil engineering, Registered as a Professional Engineer with ECSA.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

    1. Minimum 10-15 years civil infrastructure design experience in the mining/minerals industry, preferably in an EPC/EPCM engineering environment.
    2. Detail engineering of roads, terracing, stormwater, ponds, and network analysis of water/sewer pipelines.
    3. Detail engineering of non-process facilities (offices, change houses, temporary/permanent housing facilities, etc.).
    4. Site experience: construction.
    5. Technical competence in core engineering theory from first principles and ability to extend theory to new complex problems.
    6. Well-developed computer skills and knowledge of word, databases, spreadsheets, and discipline-related application software.
    7. Strong analytical, literacy, and numerical skills.
    8. Good written and verbal communication skills.
    9. Superior interpersonal and communication skills.
    10. Proven effective leadership skills and ability to work within a multidisciplinary team.
    11. Understanding of South African/common International standards and regulatory authority requirements in the mining/minerals processing sector.
    12. Good commercial awareness/risk management skills.
