Well established Metal Company (Manufacturing & Engineering) based in Pinetown, Kwa-Zulu Natal requires the services of a

Department Manager:
Laser Punch Programming to join their dynamic team. This individual will supervise / manage a small team of Machine Operators and Assistants. Program, operate and maintain Laser Machinery and computer in production setting.

Set up and execute specific jobs as prioritized by the Laser Department Head (once role is understood fully a phased approach to run the laser department will be needed) - maintaining quality, delivery dates and safety requirements at all times.


Requirements:


Education required:
High school diploma or equivalent


Experience required:
Minimum 5 years' experience in Laser environment


Skills, knowledge, or abilities:
Read, write & speak the English language fluently


Mathematical Skills:

Ability to work with mathematical concepts and conversions

Ability to work with and convert units of production and convert those units to Rands

Ability to accurately identify and analyze trends

Ability to understand requests and convert those requests into the terms, standards and units of production and measurement utilized within the EMI organization in a timely manner


Other Skills and Abilities:

A strong commitment to success with a "can do / will do" attitude

Technical experience with engineered products

Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively - both orally and in writing

Strong listening skills

Experience with planning and goal setting

Excellent organizational and communication skills

Demonstrated ability to deal tactfully with human issues in vendors, peers, supervisors and particularly customers

Ability to create and maintain team building relationships within the organization

Consistently demonstrate the ability to recognize and respond to changing priorities

Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure in a multi-task environment

Ability to handle multiple and changing priorities concurrently

Authority:


The Laser Programmer - Operator has the authority to fulfill the duties and responsibilities outlined above and any other authority that may be granted by the General Manager.


Measurement:

100% adherence to proper logging of cut time against target by shift

100% adherence to proper logging of rework

Timely and accurate response to requests made by each Program Manager and Department Head

Complete assignments at or before deadlines

Zero defects in products generated


Duties & Responsibilities:

Maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the job

Review line up and address any concerns with Supervisor

Maintain machines and perform all PM activities on a timely basis

Keep lasers aligned

Clear alarms (machine & computer)

Perform basic machine troubleshooting and computer repairs

Organize fixtures

Set up jobs, changes, buy-offs, and programming

Ability to determine machine parameters to cut various types of material

Evaluate part quality using blueprints and/or check aids

Build and weld fixtures

Deburr parts

Punch tooling holes

Cut parts

Ensure proper tagging of finished parts for correct routing

Clean up at end of shift

Communicate with next shift to report any problems encountered

Update supervisor

Update target time utilized

Maintain continuous improvement in quality & productivity

Put safety first - always wear all required protective equipment (including safety glasses) and follow proper department procedures

Actively participate in process troubleshooting with pressroom, sheet metal and inspection departments

Help and mentor/develop newly hired Trainees and Upgraders to experienced operators

Manage and run small team

Costings and quotes on laser/ punched components
