- Surveying and Mapping:
- Conduct surveys to determine the layout and topography of opencast mining sites, including pit boundaries, haul roads, stockpiles, and waste dumps.
- Develop accurate and detailed maps, plans, and 3D models to guide operational activities.
- Provide real-time data to support excavation, blasting, and material movement.
- Mine Design and Planning Support:
- Work with mining engineers to deliver survey data for short-term and long-term mine planning.
- Ensure accurate survey input into pit designs, blast patterns, and operational layouts.
- Volume Calculations and Reporting:
- Measure and calculate volumes of extracted materials, stockpiles, and overburden to ensure accurate production tracking.

- Compliance and Safety Monitoring:
- Ensure all surveying activities adhere to health, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Monitor slope stability, pit boundaries, and geotechnical conditions to minimize operational risks.
- Survey Equipment Management:
- Operate and maintain advanced survey equipment, including GPS systems, total stations, drones, and laser scanners.
- Calibrate and ensure the functionality of all surveying tools to meet operational requirements.
- Team Leadership and Mentorship:
- Supervise and mentor a team of surveyors and assistants, ensuring adherence to best practices and safety standards.
- Provide training to junior staff on advanced surveying techniques and technologies.
- Real-Time Operational Support:
- Provide immediate data and guidance during critical mining operations, such as blasting and excavation.
- Address discrepancies or issues in the field with actionable solutions.
- Data Integration and Technology Application:
- Use advanced software such as Model Maker, Agisoft or Metashape and Global Mapper for data processing and visualization.
- Integrate drone and satellite imagery to enhance topographical accuracy and monitoring capabilities.
- Boundary and Legal Surveys:
- Conduct boundary surveys to ensure operations stay within designated mining lease areas.
- Maintain accurate records for legal compliance and liaise with regulatory authorities as needed.
- Environmental and Rehabilitation Surveys:
- Provide topographical data for environmental impact assessments and land rehabilitation planning.
- Monitor changes in the landscape to support sustainability initiatives and regulatory reporting.
- Education:
- Grade 12 / N2
- Certificate in Basic Mine Surveying
- Certificate in Advance Survey
- Certificate in Evaluation
- Experience:
- Minimum of 5-7 years experience in surveying, with at least 1 year in opencast mining or surface mining.
- Proven record in managing survey teams and large-scale mining projects.
- Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in survey equipment such as GPS systems, total stations, and drones.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Soft Skills:
