    Area Manager Position

    A strategic leadership role has become available for an Area Manager to oversee a portfolio of Casas in the Western Cape.

    The primary purpose of this role is to lead and manage multiple Franchise and Corporate owned Casas, driving performance, growth, and profitability.

    Duties & Responsibilities

    People Management:

    • Implement Nando's People policies and procedures, ensuring operational excellence and employee engagement.
    • Manage the performance of Patraos within the portfolio, maximizing returns on investments and increasing productivity.
    • Participate in recruitment and talent management activities, ensuring the implementation of required training throughout the portfolio.
    • Authorise headcount and salary allocation within Casas, determining new appointments and payment thereof.
    • Develop and implement climate survey action plans for the portfolio.
    • Mitigate risk and improve employee relations through effective IR management.
    • Address grievances and disciplinary issues with support from People partners.
    • Monitor behaviour in the Casa to prevent abuse of Nandocas.
    • Onboard new managers for the Casas within the portfolio.
    • Foster an engaged and motivated workforce across the portfolio.
    • Set personal development goals and provide feedback to Patraos.
    • Develop a pipeline of permanent and temporary managers for the portfolio.
    • Drive Nandocas to participate in recognition and incentive opportunities.
    • Complete all people-related processes on People Central.

    Operational Management:

    • Oversee Casa activity, including sales growth indicators, Escudo, Talk to Nandos, SOS, and Qpro.
    • Ensure adherence to Brand standards and operating policies and procedures.
    • Enforce Company regulations, maintaining strict compliance with Occupational Health and Safety, Labour, and other related legislation.
    • Conduct regular Casa visits to identify problems, concerns, and opportunities for improvement.
    • Respond to crisis situations and work with Patraos to resolve and implement preventative measures.
    • Address customer complaints escalated from the team.
    • Rectify identified breaches and operational directives.
    • Establish impact and mitigation plans for potential disruptions.
    • Optimise headcount for Casas within the portfolio.
    • Coordinate activities for revamp and acquisition projects.
    • Ensure trading, liquor, and Halaal licenses/certifications are in place.
    • Monitor gross profit against monthly theoretical targets.
    • Identify risks and factors affecting business continuity.
    • Track the scorecard for Casas and address concern areas with Patraos.
    • Report key metrics for the portfolio.
    • Onboard new and acquired Casas for the portfolio.
    • Collaborate with the Loss Prevention Officer to identify and implement risk management controls.
    • Work with the Regional Facilities Manager to implement planned maintenance and minor capital projects.
    • Monitor emergency drills within the portfolio.
    • Implement and drive all projects as per project plans.
    • Share learnings and oversee the implementation of best practices across Casas.

    Marketing and Business Development:

    • Contribute to the development and implementation of plans and strategies for growth within the portfolio.
    • Monitor the implementation of national, regional, and local marketing plans and initiatives.
    • Collaborate with Marketing to identify and manage marketing activation opportunities.
    • Coordinate and execute quarterly CSI and community initiatives.
    • Scan the local area portfolio to identify emerging trends.
    • Work with Patraos to increase customer headcount.

    Budgeting and Financial Management:

    • Contribute to the annual budget and forecasting process.
    • Monitor adherence to financial policies, processes, and budgets.
    • Monitor Casa performance and daily sales figures versus budget and targets.
    • Analyse Casa expenses and initiate corrective action.
    • Coordinate the financial review process.
    • Report operational and financial risk to senior management.
    • Process requests to sell or dispose of assets.
    • Submit new asset requisition and tagging paperwork.
    • Decide on equipment repair and replacement.
    • Verify and authorise repairs and maintenance invoices.

    Property Management:

    • Manage relocation, enlargement, and revamp projects.
    • Identify opportunities for new viable sites within the portfolio.
    • Complete required questionnaires for revamps and relocations.

    Desired Experience & Qualification

    Education:

    • NQF Level 7 qualification (Business Management, Financial Management, Hospitality Management) or equivalent.

    Legal Requirements:

    • Valid Driver's License.

    Experience:

    Minimum

    • 5-8 years' experience in a middle management role in a restaurant or retail environment.

    Advantageous

    • 2-3 years' experience in a senior management role in a similar environment.
    • Demonstrated experience in delegation and business planning.

    Knowledge:

    • Restaurant operations knowledge, including people, product, and customer processes.
    • Knowledge of running multiple restaurants/business units.
    • Real estate knowledge for business and footprint expansion.
    • Labour practices and bargaining councils knowledge.
    • Nando's Technical Operations Standards and back office systems knowledge.
    • Operations audits knowledge.
    • Effective communication and coaching skills.
