    Job Description

    The University of Pretoria is seeking a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor in Small Stock Flock Health.

    Responsibilities

    • Teach and provide practical training to undergraduate and postgraduate students in veterinary and veterinary nursing fields, with a focus on small stock/flock health management;
    • Provide clinical and herd/flock health services through the Onderstepoort Veterinary Academic Hospital, surrounding community, and satellite clinics, including participation in a 24-hour service;
    • Supervise postgraduate students and participate in research and publication in scientific journals;
    • Network with relevant industry stakeholders and engage with the community through student activities;
    • Perform administrative duties as delegated by the Head of Department and maintain academic self-development.

    Minimum Requirements

    • A Bachelor of Veterinary Science (BVSc) or equivalent professional veterinary qualification;
    • Registration with the South African Veterinary Council (SAVC) as a Veterinarian;
    • Must be registered or willing to register for a Masters programme in Small Stock Flock Health or a related field within a reasonable timeframe;
    • A minimum of three years of veterinary clinical experience in ruminant medicine and flock health aspects, with evidence of continued professional development;
    • For Senior Lecturer and Associate Professor positions, additional requirements include an appropriate MMedVet degree, specialist board certification, and a PhD degree, respectively.

    Required Competencies

    • Proven knowledge and competence in veterinary clinical work, particularly in ruminant herd health aspects;
    • Research interest aligned with the position;
    • Commitment to obtaining a PhD in a field related to ruminant/small stock flock health for candidates without a PhD;
    • Excellent language and communication skills, as well as interpersonal and generic teaching competencies.

    Added Advantages
