Grade 12:

-
BTech(Wood Tech)/National Diploma(Wood Technology) qualification/BSc(Wood Technology:

  • management qualification (
    MBA / MBL or equivalent) advantageous;
-
5-10 years' proven previous experience in a sawmill production environment with contactable references essential (
both dry mill as well as wet mill experience:

  • Good knowledge of
    quality / SANS Standards / relevant SABS grading specifications;
  • Knowledge and understanding of OHS Act;
  • Advanced knowledge and proficiency of Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook and Word);
  • Exposure to
    Planned Maintenance Systems with the emphasis on
    preventative maintenance;:

  • Mechanical and Electrical knowledge of sawmilling machines and operations.
This position reports to the Operations Director.

  • Responsible to
    oversee the overall management and performance for production and quality standards as well as all functions at the particular mill, which includes:

  • Production function/activities (including staff
    requirements and cost control of 2 Log Yards, 2 Wet Mill lines, Green Chain,:
-
Stacking, Kilns, Boilers, Destacking, Recovery, Dry Mill, Finger-Joint and Despatch sections;:


  • Maintenance and Technical workshop function (including PMs, resources management, etcetera);
  • Value added / laminating departments / function;
  • Ensuring that the various properties (mill / plant, equipment, yard and buildings) are managed / maintained in a planned and costeffective way;
  • Production
    KPIs to be achieved in such way that the particular mill consistently remains in the top 12 sawmills in RSA (Crickmay comparison);:
  • Ensuring that
    monthly targets, company goals and objectives (e.g.
, recovery, sizes, sorting, stacking etc
) are met;:


  • Management
    of people / HR experience is an integral part strong managerial skills, strong people management skills as well as good personal relations (towards all stakeholders);
  • Performing all administrative duties pertaining to the position;

Maintaining and improving safety standards and housekeeping practices;

  • Managing
    overall operating expenditures;
  • Encouraging and fostering a sense of high, positive morale among the workforce;
-
Advanced Production and Processing knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, end products and other techniques to maximize the manufacturing processes;

  • Systems Evaluation through identifying measures or indicators of system performance and the actions needed to improve or correct performance, relative to the goals of the system;
