Description

The Kidney Recipient Coordinator is responsible for the overall management of services pertaining to recipients waiting for kidney transplants in accordance with ethical, legal and clinical governance policies and practices.

This individual will act as an expert in the area of transplantation and will provide information and prepare presentations and other communication to support standards of
care. Most importantly the Recipient Coordinator must support the principle of organ donation and transplantation.


The Kidney Recipient Coordinator will be required to work in consultation with other stakeholders to form synergistic partnerships to achieve organizational transplant objectives and the Hospital strategy aligned to Person centered Health and care.


Accountabilities (But not limited to)

Best practice benchmarking:


  • Keep abreast of current research in the discipline for the benefit of business sustainability and
alignment to best practice standards.

  • Contribute towards the alignment of Hospital's transplant processes and Standing Operating Procedures to meet external certification and accreditation requirements as required within legislative and best practice standards.

Risk, legislative requirements, compliance management and reporting:

  • Strictly adhere to the South African law National Health Act of 2003 (NHA), Chapter 8; and the Policies relating to the Transplant according to the National Department of Health (NDOH) Government Gazette, Notice 320 of 200
  • Report to transplant management any potential transgression of the NHA or any other applicable
legislative control relating to transplant Management.

  • Maintain standards of practice as per the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) and
the South African Nursing Council (SANC) and ensure full compliance to statutory regulations, Hospital policies and procedures, best practice, professional standards as well as the Hospital's strategy

General administration:


  • General office administration to ensure job efficiency.
  • Handle all routine administration queries and work requests that may not be included in this role
profile and resolves these efficiently and effectively within the required turnaround times.

Person Centered care:


  • Perform all recipient and living related nursing initiatives while functioning as an independent practitioner.
  • Exercise preliminary judgement in determining the suitability of the recipient and/or the living donor.
  • Identify and manage obstacles which may hinder potential recipients from undergoing transplantation.
  • Provide specialist education and clinical services to the recipient, living donor and family.

Transplant coordination:


  • Coordinate multiple related and unrelated tasks involved in the assessment, workup and support for patients undergoing transplantation.
  • Coordinate both adult and paediatric kidney transplant activities.
  • Advise the medical and nursing employees on the process of referring and identifying suitable patients for transplantation.
  • Consult on the planning, timing and negotiation of the transplant between a variety of specialists, departments and medical aid companies.

Build and maintain stakeholder relationships:

  • Work effectively and co-operatively and lead others so as to establish and maintain good working relationships that are mutually beneficial. This includes Medical Doctors and Surgeons involved in the transplant process.
  • Establish and service relationships with all internal and external stakeholders, including hospital management, patients, doctors and colleagues to ensure a dedicated focus on the Netcare strategy of person centred Health and care.
  • Participate as a member of a team, recognising the importance of embracing differences to achieve organisational goals and the Netcare strategy.

Requirements:


  • A relevant nursing qualification (Diploma in General Nursing/ B Cur Degree) or Enrolled Nurse.
  • Current registration with the applicable body.
  • Counselling ability, including HIV counselling (recommended).
  • Minimum 5 years clinical nursing experience essential
  • Multitasking ability and the ability to deal with difficult stakeholders (internal and external) appropriately.
  • Demonstrates genuine care and concern for the person, demonstrating empathy and an ability to understand the situation from a person centred Health and care perspective.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Excellent presentation skills.
