Our client currently has an opportunity for a Project Engineer with Piping Engineering experience, a Mechanical Degree, and a mineral background to be responsible for engineering and design activities relating to scoping, pre-feasibility, feasibility studies, EPCM and EPC projects.

Job description / core competencies:
Mechanical engineer with extensive package experience, as well as being well-versed with piping specifications, routing, lay-out, etc.

Participate in EPCM/EPC execution projects, studies (from concept to detail) and tenders, and ensuring work standards are met.

Responsible for the hands-on engineering and approval of rotating equipment and packaged units on assigned projects.

Responsible for preparation and approval of project related standards and job notes.


Ensure that engineering activities on assigned projects are executed within budgeted man hours and approved schedules in compliance with project procedures, standards and specifications and in accordance with company procedures and the requirements of the Occupational Health and Safety Act of South Africa.


Set-up of project schedules and to see that all dates, rates of progress and design periods are realistic and are met.

Review and approve flow sheets for correctness, all operating and design conditions and piping and instrumentation connections.

Develop equipment specifications to meet the client's standards, international and South African standards and regulatory requirements.

Prepare technical bid analysis and evaluation reports.

Review and approve supplier documents mechanical and piping specifications.

Responsible for overall technical management/co-ordination on supplier orders.


Give guidance to client, project team members, other specialist engineers and inspectors on equipment, mechanical handling and packaged units engineering matters.

Coordinate review of all other engineering aspects of package unit supplier's drawings.

Perform inspection and witness performance testing where required.

Provide progress report information, at the required frequency and with the required content throughout the project execution.

Assist where necessary, in the mechanical construction, handover and commissioning of projects.


Preparation, coordination and reviewing of key mechanical deliverables, including mechanical packages, datasheets, specifications, bills of quantity, mechanical design basis reports, costing and trade off analysis, equipment lists, etc.

Coordination and reviewing of digital / drawing-based deliverables, including 3D models, piping isometrics, general arrangement drawings, etc.

Experience with key mechanical software, such as hydraulic analysis packages (e.g. PipeFlo, Bentley Hammer) is an advantage

Developing and critiquing existing designs and vendor systems.

Gap analysis of pre-existing project information.

Client and stakeholder interaction.

Communication and presentation skills.

Presenting of technical methodologies and findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.


Key responsibilities:
Overall Project Management Capabilities - internal and external (client interface).


Technical Design Ability - Under mínimal supervision completes technical design work using company and Client design methods, standards and data in line with Project requirements.

Provision of support to designers.


Technical Expertise - Possesses high levels of technical expertise required to do the job, however continuously work towards improving and updating technical abilities.

Will personally seek out opportunities to develop technical knowledge base.

Cross Discipline Project and Team Interaction - Appreciation of project set up and team structure across disciplines. Under mínimal guidance working with other discipline designers.

Understanding and meeting schedule and schedule dependencies - Awareness of personal targets for deliverable production and deliverable schedule.

Commercial Awareness and Customer Focus - Under mínimal direction develop the engineering requirement.

Interpretation of Engineering Requirements - Under mínimal direction develop the engineering requirement. Carries out, or participates in, discipline (technical) audits and responds with relevant corrective action.

Promotes an enthusiastic HSSE & QA culture that delivers positive commitment to and engages all employees in continuous improvement in business performance.

Job Qualifications, Skills & Experience:

BEng, BSc, MEng, or MSc in Mechanical Engineering.

5 to 10 years' experience with a minimum of 3 years in the mineral industry.

Pr.
Eng. registration with ECSA (an advantage).

Familiar with commonly used mechanical engineering standards and codes including but not limited to API, NFPA, ASME, GPS.

Extreme Proficiency in MS Office (Excel and Word).
