Description
The incumbent would be required to assign stories, manage reporters and to do forward planning for the daily news diary as well as present the daily news diary and to attend meetings with Reporters.

Budget Compliance
Comply with work rules, standards and methods.
Co-ordination of Briefs
Plan daily diary in conjunction with the Editors including, but not restricted to the Political, News, Business, Sport Editors.
Brief Reporters on their stories and angles.
Brief Camera Crew on requirements for the day.
Assist with forward planning diary and attend daily / weekly meetings.
To update Editorial teams - brief news meeting and give clear guidance in terms of story movements and expectations.
Contribute toward and oversee live broadcasts and special projects.
Perform quality control checks.
Monitor news wires, social media and other relevant platforms for breaking news.
Breaking Major News
Respond timeously to breaking news and developments thereof.
Proper planning and implementation around breaking news and/or major stories and assign or re-assign Reporters to cover them.
Proper communication of breaking news and it's treatment with the various news divisions.
Set deadlines for Reporters.
Keep in contact with Reporters to ensure that desk and Editorial team are informed about changing developments of stories.
Management
Ensure adequate staffing resources are in place.
Ensure the smooth running of the desk and manage this administratively.
Motivating for training and other development opportunities for Reporters.
Content
Assist with writing content should the need arise.
Assist with studio crossings should the need arise.
Create and maintain a network of contacts both internally and externally.
Scripts
Assist Reporters at times with their scripts, angles and talk them through possible new angles to pursue and include.
Qualifications
National Senior Certificate - Essential
Advanced Diploma in Journalism
Experience
Journalism - 10 years
