Job Summary


Reporting to the Group Chief People Officer, this role provides strategic leadership and oversight in managing key capabilities within the Group Human Capital function, including the Human Capital strategy formulation, implementation & measures of success, financial management, procurement and supplier relationship management, integrated reporting, strategic programme management and Agile work practices.


To liaise with and influence stakeholders across the organisation and externally on strategic and operational plans and the execution thereof; facilitate Absa-wide engagement and the integration of the Human Capital Function with the broader Group.


Job Description:


Key Accountabilities:

Strategy Formulation and Execution:

  • Actively contribute, along with the rest of the Human Capital Executive team, in setting the strategic direction for the Human Capital division, anticipating megatrends, challenges and opportunities, conducting horizon scanning and remaining up to date with industry best practices
  • Act as custodian of the discipline around delivery of the Human Capital strategy
  • Ensure that the strategic targets set are of sufficient stretch with relevant metrics in place to ensure that the HC strategic objectives meet stakeholder expectations
  • Set the tone and create the climate and the relevant structures and mechanisms to ensure that the desired cadence is maintained in the delivery of the Human Capital strategic focus areas

Stakeholder Management:

  • Identify and manage stakeholders across various levels, including Board, understanding and addressing their expectations of HC
  • Contribute as a key HC Exco member to the overall agenda internally and with external stakeholders, ensuring that the function's agenda is appropriately managed and reported to all requisite stakeholders
  • Drive operational excellence initiatives to improve efficiency, scalability, and resilience of operational processes, enabling HC to deliver superior services to stakeholders

Sustainable Growth:

  • Influence, integrate and lead the achievement of HC's performance ambitions, in a sustainable manner.
  • Translate strategic objectives into delivery requirements to ensure insights are appropriate and that adequate business ownership and buyin are created to realise the overall strategy
  • Setup and lead the Agile transformation office and ways of work including agile capability, training, setup of new ways of work in HC and aid in the development of the required new skills
  • Lead innovation and change
  • Drive strategic change management initiatives, facilitating smooth transitions and adoption of new technologies, processes and practices across the organisation
  • Stay abreast of industry trends and role players and ensure HC is well positioned to provide competitive and industryleading processes and practices

Lead and Manage People:

  • Communicate the strategy for achieving HC priorities together with the broad actions needed to implement it
  • Inspire a large or diverse workforce to commit to these priorities and required deliverables
  • Accountable for enabling people and championing the culture aligned to brand value and EVP
  • Manage the endtoend required talent actions in line with our purpose, values and culture
  • Responsible for performance management, training and development and wellness for direct reports, and ensure a conducive working environment
  • Ensure appropriate reward and recognition practices for colleagues in the team
  • Ensure that poor performance is addressed, and relevant corrective actions are implemented

Operational Effectiveness:

  • Build a culture of innovation, agility, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the HC COO office, promoting knowledge sharing, talent development, and the adoption of emerging technologies
  • Develop and implement robust reporting mechanisms to provide accurate and timely information on HC performance, project status, and operational metrics to stakeholders at various levels of the organisation
  • Drive strategic reporting requirements and all tactical reporting and delivery
  • Drive the development and tracking of tactical plans and scorecards and take corrective actions where required
  • Take overall responsibility for setting and managing area budgets aligned to the HC strategy and in support of the organisation's financial requirements
  • Responsible for Procurement and Supplier Management for the HC function
  • Drive operational excellence through adaptive agility and foster effective collaboration and engagement with both internal and external stakeholders
