Youngman Roofing, a leading supplier of high-quality roofing and insulation products, is looking for a suitably qualified and experienced individual to join the Group as

Production Shift Manager:
Second Shift at the Maitland Branch in Cape Town.

Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Production Shift Manager will oversee the overall manufacturing and loading process during the second shift to ensure optimized production and delivery to the customer, as well as ensuring the factory is operating optimally and in accordance with the Company 's policies and procedures.


KEY RESPONSIBILTIES

  • Planning: participates in, and implements, the planning and organization of the production process for the second shift to ensure availability of necessary material, equipment, and labour resources required, ensuring the highest level of efficiency and in line with customer expectations; assigns team members with tasks to be completed on relevant shift.
  • Ensures team members are effectively moving from manual to automated processes.
  • Ensures machinery is operational and efficient, conducting regular inspections and providing feedback thereon to the Operations Manager regarding any maintenance, repair or replacement of damaged equipment that is required.
  • In conjunction with the Operations Manager, ensures that any maintenance scheduled for the second shift is scheduled in such a way as to minimize disruptions and ensure efficient operations.
  • Provides input on optimal design and layout of factory based on experience, to the Operations Manager.
  • Ensures necessary housekeeping is taking place as well as premises being up to standard.
  • Ensures wastage levels are within Company standards.
  • Overall accountability for stock and variances on second shift
  • Ensures production complies with established quality control specifications and standards, and that employees are correctly complying with health and safety policies when carrying out job duties.
  • Produces reports as required to Operations Manager
Provides input on manufacturing challenges or problems, making suggestions for improvements.

  • Ensures that any challenges or deviations in terms of logistics are communicated to the Distribution Manager.
  • In cases where customers are unhappy, investigates and takes action to promote Customer Satisfaction
  • Works closely with Managers of other departments to understand delays, strategise around what can be changed or improved.
  • Leads and directs the Second Shift Supervisors, Operators and Assistants.
  • Checks in regularly with employees, handling grievances or performance issues.
  • Conducts timeous performance reviews.
  • Identifies training needs for employees and provides feedback to Operations Manager thereon.
  • Ensures, in conjunction with the Operations Manager and the factory managers, the hiring and orienting of technical production employees to ensure a competent workforce, in compliance with required hiring policies, and ensuring that all factory staff receives the necessary training programmes to operate equipment and to enhance personnel job skill and knowledge.
  • Oversees staffing levels and adjusts as necessary in consultation with the Operations Manager
  • Oversees security of the facility during the second shift
  • Resolves problems and troubleshoot issues as they arise.

SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • A technical degree or diploma, in Supply Chain or Production or similar, is advantageous.
  • Proven previous working experience as a Production/Operations Manager/Supervisor
  • Experience in working in a shift environment.
  • 5 years plus in a manufacturing or production environment; experience in steelforming advantageous
  • Computer literate, with the ability to learn new systems quickly.
  • Technical knowledge of the industry advantageous, strong knowledge of machinery
  • Excellent planning skills
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, numeracy and computer literacy skills
  • Good people management skills and experience with management of staff
  • Skilled at identifying problems and implementing preventative strategies to minimize risk.
  • Ability to develop good working relationships and trust with various teams.
