    Analyst, Equity Research (Mining and Metals) Job

    Overview

    We are a top-rated research team within SBG Securities, a wholly owned subsidiary of Standard Bank Group. We assist institutional and retail clients in research and trading across 17 African markets.

    Job Purpose:

    To join our high-energy Equity Research Franchise as a junior analyst, assisting the lead analyst in sectors such as PGMs, Gold and Oil and Gas. Develop sector coverage over time with the opportunity to develop into a lead role.

    The Ideal Candidate:

    We are looking for someone with very strong numeracy skills, highly analytical, self-starting, creative and good at developing and presenting a view. Strong Excel skills and attention to detail are critical. Ability to cope in a high-pressure environment is essential.

    Key Responsibilities:

    1. Global supply & demand modelling and PGM commodity pricing estimates.
    2. Assisting the Sector Head in conducting new and innovative research, publication of regular product and new thematic reports.
    3. Attend roadshows alongside Sector Head including attendance to company results, corporate meetings and site visits.
    4. Complete and respond to 'bespoke' and ad-hoc client requests.
    5. Oversee day-to-day activities of the research department, ensuring accuracy of work and marketability of research content.
    6. Write insightful and impactful research that results in a product suite encompassing sector and company notes, thematic and periodical publications.
    7. Develop skills and knowledge base to initiate coverage of relevant stocks in allocated sectors.
    8. Market investment ideas to domestic and offshore global investors through face-to-face meetings, conference calls and tele-marketing.
    9. Inform and work with Sales and Trading to optimise marketing and execution of investment ideas.
    10. Pass interesting ideas on counterparts in CIB for instance in ECM, DCM, M&A and broader corporate finance functions.
    11. Develop sector coverage and product strategy to effect, establish and grow a leading research franchise.
    12. Maintain up-to-date market data, knowledge of current events and identify key developments in allocated sectors.
    13. Oversee development of commercial and differentiated research reports/publications and monitor analysis and recommendations.
    14. Distribute research product/commercial ideas to counterparts in Corporate Investment Banking to generate leads.
    15. Organise conferencing and corporate access calendars to provide corporate access to executives and decision-makers.
    16. Plan, direct and present analysis to demonstrate value of CIB Equity Research ideas to existing and prospective clients.

    Qualifications:

    Type of Qualification: Bachelors Degree, preferably in engineering or mathematical sciences
    Field of Study: Mathematical Sciences, mining

    Experience:

    • Role based in Cape Town or Johannesburg offices
    • Mining and Metals industry analysis experience preferred
