Job Advert Summary:


The incumbent will work with the Qualisave Banner Executive and leadership to develop a forward looking strategic people agenda in line with business strategies to meet profitability, productivity and efficiency targets.

The individual will lead a People Business Advisor support team to establish the Qualisave stores and regional office (Operations) to meet Banner wide governance and reporting obligations and set standards and frameworks for positioning Qualisave as an Employer of Choice.

The People Business Advisor will guide leadership on people practices that will drive optimisation and continuous improvement.


Duties & Responsibilities:


Strategy input, enablement and alignment:


  • Collaborate with the Qualisave Banner stakeholders, People Strategy Execution and Organisational Effectiveness Lead as well as broader HR functions to ensure alignment of HR strategies
  • Clarify key strategic people opportunities and risks and ensure that these are actioned appropriately
  • Drive the successful implementation of the People agenda, HR initiatives and projects through partnerships with Line and People Business Advisors

Organisational Effectiveness and Design:


  • Review of the operating model and ways of working effectiveness. incl. function capabilities and model alignment to the strategy and objectives for the Qualisave banner
  • Ensure the Organisational Effectiveness operations are consistently conducted in a way that all compliance measures are met and stand up to internal and external reviews and audits
  • Ensure the successful implementation of key stakeholder engagements and communication interventions in support of critical business initiatives, with particular focus on culture and a shared vision and values

Talent Management:


  • Ensure that the skills development planning and implementation processes are implemented as per the guidelines
  • Ensure ongoing management and success of the Trainee Manager Programme
  • Influence performance measures for the Qualisave banner, building a performance culture, ensure talent is at future fit level and decisions on develop vs source of future skills etc.

Rewards and Benefits:


  • Provide strategic advice to the Qualisave Banner MD on management of compensation as a strategic lever for talent attraction and retention
  • Liaise with the Strategy Execution and Organisational Effectiveness lead to ensure regular employee assessments to measure employee health and other key talent management aspects
  • Ensure that wellness programmes / initiatives developed by the HR Centre of Excellence (COE) are promoted and supported in the Qualisave banner

Diversity, Inclusion and Employment Equity:


  • Provide input into and oversee the implementation of diversity and inclusion initiatives and provide tools and support where needed
  • Drive sustainable transformation initiatives to ensure legislative compliance and the maintenance / improvement of Pick 'n Pay's BBBEE rating within the Operations division through the EE plan and PWD targets

Employee relations:


  • Communicate any changes in the ER strategy to the Qualisave Banner MD and People Business Advisors
  • Communicate with recognised trade unions/employees in the regions regarding company ER Strategy in the event of any changes
  • Ensure that grievance and disciplinary processes are timeously and fairly resolved

Business partnering:


  • Meet with Banner Stakeholders to understand and provide input on broader business issues
  • Partner with leaders and managers as trusted adviser to achieve shared organisational objectives and drive the achievement of a highperformance culture
  • Contribute to the development of business cases related to the People agenda where opportunities for optimisation have been identified within the Qualisave Banner

Labor modeling:


  • Provide input into workforce planning for forecasting, planning and tracking of compliance purposes.

People Management:


  • Ensure that People Business Advisors are focused on the right priorities
  • Effective people and team management and motivation to direct reporting lines

Financial Management:


  • Measure and quantify wasteful expenditure, e.g., unattended training, regretted losses, etc.
  • Measure and quantify actual cost saving opportunities, e.g., synergies, outsourcing, etc
  • Drive an HR commercial agenda

Minimum Requirements:


  • Relevant degree (e.g. B Comm / HR Business / Psychology); postgraduate degree advantageous
  • 10 years functional experience and 8 years managerial experience
  • Management and delivery of people optimisation initiatives
  • Providing strategic advice and guidance to the internal and Pick 'n Pay Retail teams
  • Link the people agenda to the profitability, productivity and efficiency of business requirements
  • Experience in the retail industry
  • Experience in leading largescale teams
  • HR experience in a retail environment
