    Duties & Responsibilities

    Quality

    • Effective management and maintenance of the SHEQ Management system, procedures and specifications are crucial to ensuring overall quality.
    • All customer and consumer complaints must be investigated and feedback provided as per the customer complaints procedure.
    • Risks and opportunities or Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) studies must be conducted regularly to identify areas for improvement.
    • The internal audit system for SHEQ must be managed effectively to ensure adherence to schedule.
    • Conduct supplier audits on all new or existing suppliers to ensure they meet our quality standards.
    • External audits, certification audits or customer visits or inspections must be facilitated smoothly and efficiently.
    • The control of non-conforming material procedure, corrective actions and concessions procedure must be adhered to at all times.
    • The Bill of Materials must be managed properly to ensure accuracy and efficiency.
    • Quality assurance and trending of results on all products is essential to identify deviations from standards.
    • Support the NPD department with conducting trials and approving all product produced to ensure quality meets our standards.
    • Co-ordinate and report on trials of new products, raw materials and wrapping materials to ensure their safety and efficacy.
    • IDentifying operators/shop-floor SHEQ training requirements and conducting the training where possible/necessary.
    • Ensuring effective Quality assurance is maintained on site, maintain ISO 9001 and FSC certification by conducting regular reviews and audits.
    • Manage calibration schedule on site with stakeholders to ensure equipment is functioning properly.
    • Manage document and data control and procedure reviews for site with stakeholders to ensure accuracy and compliance.
    • Manage quality control and quality assurance protocols to ensure consistency and excellence.
    • Communicate quality and FSC policies annually and display them at site to ensure awareness and understanding.
    • Conduct annual quality and FSC training to educate employees on quality practices and procedures.
    • Ensure adherence to quality plan sampling, internal and external testing programs to ensure accuracy and reliability.
    • Generate Certificate of analysis to verify product quality and composition.
    • Coordinate annual management review with stakeholders to ensure alignment and progress towards goals.
    • Managing Suppliers/ Service Providers to SHEQ and controlling their costs to ensure value for money.

    Safety, Health and Environment

    • SHE policy must be displayed and communicated to employees / contractors annually to ensure awareness and understanding.
    • SHE management system must be communicated to site management / employees to ensure everyone is aware of their responsibilities.
    • SHE Incidents: follow up / investigation support / lost time injury investigation / facilitation of corrective & preventative actions / incident recall must be handled promptly and effectively.
    • Critical incident investigation, reporting (Lost time injuries / reportable / property loss, fire, theft) must be conducted thoroughly and transparently.
    • Risk Assessment: Ensure that site SHER risk assessment is up to date / reviewed and critical risks communicated to management & employees to ensure a safe working environment.
    • Ensure safe Work Procedures: Task Risk Assessment / safe work procedure / training and job observations are conducted to identify potential hazards and take corrective action.
    • Ensure internal SHER audits are conducted, reports written & follow up on corrective & preventative actions conducted as per audit schedule to ensure compliance and effectiveness.
    • Contractor Legal Compliance: Conduct legal compliance assessments of permanent on site contractors as per audit schedule to ensure they meet our standards.
    • SHER Induction: SHER induction compliance monitoring & enforcement must be done to ensure new employees understand their responsibilities and safety protocols.
    • Training: Monitoring of legal compliance and reporting legal non-conformances to training coordinators for corrective actions to ensure employees are aware of their responsibilities.
    • Conduct annual SHE awareness training, monthly toolbox talks, ad hoc SHE training when required to educate employees on safety practices and procedures.
    • Manage SHE Inspections with safety reps and operations manager for site to ensure compliance and effectiveness.
    • SHE Committee Meetings: Coordinate monthly SHE meetings and send out minutes to ensure open communication and collaboration.
    • Reporting: Monthly completion of SHER data to stakeholders to ensure transparency and accountability.
    • Emergency Preparedness & Response: Facilitation of emergency response and evacuation exercises / site fire teams / compliance evaluation / liaison with external fire and emergency services to ensure preparedness and response to emergencies.
    • Occupational Hygiene Surveys: schedule external surveys, facilitate, evaluate reports, noise, ventilation, HCS, lighting and communicate to stakeholders for implementation of actions to ensure a safe working environment.
    • Medical Fitness: Monitor legal compliance in terms of medical fitness to ensure employees are fit to work safely.
    • Client Verification Audits: Conduct required off site client verification assessments e.g. waste disposal or recycling provider facilities to ensure compliance and effectiveness.
    • Ensure planned job observations are scheduled and monitored for compliance to ensure employees are following safe working practices.
    • Management Review: Ensure that annual management review is conducted to ensure alignment and progress towards goals.

    Desired Experience & Qualification

    Formal Qualifications:

    • Degree in BSC / diploma in Anal Chem/ ChemEng/ TQM/BTech Quality or related field is required.
    • Effective QMS e.g ISO 9001 : 2015 knowledge and practical experience is essential to ensuring quality management systems are in place.
    • SAMTRAC certification is desirable to demonstrate expertise in auditing and quality management.
    • SMETA knowledge / Hygiene standards/ legal compliance/ lab experience is necessary to ensure compliance and effectiveness.
    • ISO 14001 Implementation / ISO 45001 implementation / legal compliance is essential to ensure environmental and health and safety management systems are in place.
    • Tertiary qualification an added advantage e.g Courses: Incident investigation, Risk assessment, Root Cause Analysis to demonstrate expertise in specific areas.

    Work Experience

    • Fast paced factory environment with a focus on quality and safety.
    • Years demonstrated operational safety, health, environmental risk practical experience is essential to ensuring a safe working environment.
    • At least 3 years' experience in SHEQ environment with a focus on quality and safety.
    • Lab experience is advantageous to demonstrate expertise in laboratory testing and analysis.
    • Internal and External audit experience is necessary to ensure quality management systems are in place and compliant.
