    SENIOR VETERINARY NURSE: OVAH THEATRE RESPONSIBILITIES

    The incumbent will be responsible for the following key duties:

    • Preparing and assisting with small, large animals and wildlife surgical procedures;
    • Theatre management and practice emphasizing proper knowledge of surgical procedures, correct handling and care of instruments, theatre hygiene, maintenance of equipment, stock control, orders, cleaning and biosecurity products;
    • Patient care pre-, intra- and postoperative;
    • Assisting with continuous informal training of students and student nurses;
    • Providing after hour emergency services on a rotational basis;
    • Performing relief duties in other sections in the OVAH when required;
    • Undertaking shift duties as needed.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    The successful incumbent must meet the following minimum requirements:

    • Diploma in Veterinary Nursing (DipCurAnim or Dip Vet Nursing) or equivalent qualification;
    • Registration as a veterinary nurse with the South African Veterinary Council;
    • At least two years' experience in veterinary nursing and general clinic management, including one year in theatre practice.

    • Flexibility to work weekends and outside normal working hours as required for continuous service delivery in the hospital.
